We've made a couple of small changes in the sites rules. First off, we now require profiles to be properly filled in. It's okay if your profile is very short but if you have just entered nonsense in your profile then we will delete it without warning.

We have also changed the rules on adult businesses because we have been having problems with spam on the site. We are now banning the mention of any business in profiles and linking to a business is no longer allowed. If you want to advertise your business on Fab Swingers then you must buy an advert.

We are now members of NASCA. NASCA are a huge swingers organization in the USA and have thousands of members in North America. Fab Swingers is now being advertised on their website and in the directory which is mailed to all their members.

Several months ago we changed the internet address of our mail server. Unfortunately our new internet address is blocked by Global Net. Global Net run Waitrose.com, ic24.net and globalnet.co.uk.

We have repeatedly mailed them but they will not reply to any of our mails so we do not know why they are blocking us and do not expect them to change this position. If you presently are a customer of Global Net, Waitrose.com or ic24.net then you will need to use another ISP for Fab Swingers. All of the major email providers such as Hotmail, Google and Yahoo are fine.

If you are a customer of any of these ISPs it would be great if you could get in touch with support and see if they will explain why they are blocking us.

Fab Swingers is just coming up for one year old so we are just going to start cleaning up the site. Anyone who hasn't logged in for 355 days will get a warning mail and if they don't log in by 365 days then their profile will be deleted. We don't want Fab Swingers to be like certain sites we could mention who claim hundreds of thousands of members but most of the members haven't logged in for years!

The good news is that Fab Swingers has become much busier over the past few months with us getting more than 1 million hits a day!

The bad news is that the site got a bit slow, particularly in the evenings when we are at the busiest.

We've been working very hard over the past month or so on making a much faster site and we've now relaunched with the new software. It looks almost exactly like the old site (although the homepage has changed a bit) but it's running much, much faster.

We finally have the video chatroom up and running. Within 5 minutes of getting up and running a certain member of the site was showing her tits which was a great start!

Anyway, we hope you enjoy the cams.

We've now switched over to the new forums. I'm sure you'll find it much better. Unfortunately it's really difficult to copy the postings out of the old forum so we're not going to be able to take everything over but we are copying over by hand some of the really lengthy postings that people took a lot of time over.

The new forums are also going to replace this blog so from now you can't post to the blog anymore. The blog is now going to be for site news.

You can still look at the Old Forums but you can't create new messages there anymore.

We've been working on a new forum for Fab Swingers. The plan is that this will replace the blog and the present forums.

It should be much easier to use and it will also (optionally) send you an email when someone replies to your posts and it's a bit easier to find posts. It will also be easier for us to allow members of Fab Swingers to help us with moderating the forums.

Check out the New Forums and let us know if you find any problems and if everything goes okay we will switch over this weekend.

The vast majority of members of Fab Swingers are here for fun. Unfortunately there have one been one or two people who have behaved inappropriately.

If you find a member who is behaving inappropriately but not actually breaking the law please report it to us and we will suspend their account.

However if you believe that any illegal activity has taken place then you should call Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 and notify us so that we can preserve log files and messages.

This blog is not an appropriate place to report alleged criminal activity. Criminal activity should be reported to either Crime Stoppers or directly to the police who will be in a position to take proper action. Posting allegations to a public website is not a sensible approach for anyone.

We've recently had some pop-up adverts appearing on the site - you might have seen a box offering to install software. I'm very unhappy that this happened, our advertisers are not supposed to be using pop-ups. I've suspended all of the adverts from Clicksor until I get an explanation. Sorry!

Up to know we've pretty much ran Fab Swingers without any rules. Only one person has been banned from the site so far (for sending abusive emails to couples - and he has rejoined the site recently too) and so far there's only been one series of posts deleted.

I think though that now the community has grown to well over 3,000 people we're getting to the size where we need to set down some rules of what is and isn't acceptable.

In general I really don't believe in censorship so I really do want to keep things as open as possible. On the other hand I'm not that keen on swingers slagging each other off and more importantly I don't think it encourages people to join the site. According to our visitor tracking people very often look at the blog and forum before deciding whether or not to join Fab Swingers and I think recent posts will put people off.

So what I would like is some volunteers who are willing to help draft rules for the site and then once the rules are agreed I'd like to see if we can get other volunteers to enforce them. As fas as possible I do want Fab Swingers to be democratic.

It's been w-a-y too long since we last changed the poll on the homepage - does anyone have any good ideas for what the next one should be?

So far we've had:

We're going to be moving the site to our new server in San Francisco this evening. The new server is much, much more powerful so the site should be a lot of faster, even when it's very busy. There will be some downtime between midnight tonight (UK time) and the early hours on the morning.

If you have a homepage somewhere or a profile on Yahoo! or something similar you can now add it to your profile. Click on the My Account and choose Edit Profile and there's now an option to add your homepage.

We're having some problems with the chatroom. Cutting a long story short, our hosting company decided to take down the chatroom server and we're still trying to get it fixed.

We have decided to move to a new hosting company and at the same time move Fab Swingers to a much more powerful server. The new server is roughly 20 times faster than the present box so it should make the site much more responsive, particularly during our busy times. The new server has been ordered and hopefully we will make the move during the next week.

Unfortunately there will be some downtime while we move to the new server but we'll keep you up to date with what's happening. 

I've just improved the search again by adding a postcode search (for the UK) or an area code search (for the USA) so you can now find people near you. I've also added a search for particular interests. Combining the new searches you can now find people in Glasgow interested in gangbangs, people in Birmingham into blindfolds or people in Manchester into making videos.

We are going to be doing some advertising for the site soon. It would be really good if we could have a banner ad with some members' photos on it.

If anyone would be happy for us to use some or all of their profile photos in our advertising please add a comment to this post. Don't worry though unlike some sites we won't use anyone's photos without permission first.

Hopefully this ad campaign will get lots of new members to the site.

If you run a website we'll be posting some information next week on how you can run our advertising.

You'll notice now that when you're viewing profiles there's a 'Verify Genuine' option on the menu. You can use this to say that you've confirmed the person is genuine - either by meeting them, chatting on the phone or by webcam.

Unfortunately because Fab Swingers is free it would be very easy for people just to signup for two or three accounts and then use these accounts to verify themselves so to get round that only people who have been verified are allowed to verify others.

To kick things off we've verified a few people that we know are genuine. Until 31 March we will be doing telephone verifications for couples and single women only so if you want to be verified just drop us a message with a note of your phone number and a time when both partners will be present and we will give you a quick ring to check you are genuine.

After 31 March we should have verified enough people that you'll be able to find other members of the site to verify you. We've got 3,000 members at the moment so we don't really want to be trying to verify everyone ourselves!

We've just added some new privacy features to the site, available from My Account -> Privacy. You can now suspend your profile if you're taking a break from swinging and don't when anyone getting in touch with you. You can also control exactly who can contact you and what (if any) email we send you.

There's also a new tab at the right of the page which is our Shop, it's a collection of some of our favourite sex books plus lots of toys. We'll use the profits from the shop to develop the site and buy advertising to get more members.

We're also pleased to say that Fab Swingers is now making a small profit which go to show that there is no need to charge people fees. Thanks to all of you for your support!

The new chatroom has been live for a couple of days and seems to have gone down well. Unfortunately it seems to have overloaded the server a bit so we've ordered a new server just for the chatroom which should get everything back to a decent speed again. This should be done this weekend.

Due to popular demand we now have forums. Almost nobody has using the old groups so they have been deleted. I've shifted some posts from the blog and the old groups into the forums. Hopefully the forums will be much easier to use than the old system.

Next thing I'm going to look at is a way of marking profiles as genuine. 

We're going away on holiday for a week - so behave yourself while we're away! Anna will be looking after the site until we get back.

There won't be anyone promoting the site while we're away so there probably won't be many new members this week.

We've added an online now page which shows who's currently online. Also the profile pages now show if the user's online too. You will get logged out either when you click on the Logout tab or if you don't use the site for 30 minutes.

We've had a lot of new members signing up in December and we're now well over 1000 members which is a great start.

Fab Swingers tries to be a very sex-positive website but even still I'm sure most parents would not want their children to look at the site.

Many adult websites have a front page saying "This site is for adults only - if you are over 18 click here to enter" however in my experience simply asking children if they are over 18 is not a very effective way of restricting access.

Every page of Fab Swingers is now tagged with both the PICS and ICRA systems. These are both industry standard ways of marking pages for adults only and will make sure that the parental controls on Internet Explorer, AOL, etc will correctly identify Fab Swingers as an adult site.

I've also registered the site with Surf Control and Cyber Sitter.

I'm very sorry for the site being down for so long - it was just over 24 hours in total.

The problem was with the ISP who host the site for us. They had a power failure and unfortunately that then resulted in some disk problems. The disks they use are huge so it took nearly 24 hours to scan through the disk to fix it.

I'm not at all happy about what's happened and I will be looking to change the server arrangements in the near future.

I've spent the evening researching Welsh dogging for the dogging locations list. Just got the midlands and the south east to do and then I'm done.

I've set the dogging group up as a UK only group because as far as I know dogging is just a British thing. The Welsh seem to be particularly into it!

I'm delighted to say that we managed over 100 swingers on our site in our first week.

There's lots of messages being exchanged and people coming back regularly which is really good to see.

I'm going to experiment with some Google adverts this week and see how that goes.

Up to now there hasn't been a swingers club in Scotland (that we know of anyway).

A place called The Highland Swingers Club opened and then promptly shut due to a disagreement with the landlord of their building. We never made it along but we heard that it was pretty good.

Anyway I see from their website that they have re-opened in a new location. Has anyone been along or know anything about it?

We had some problems yesterday night/this morning. Unfortunately we made a mistake on the email server configuration which allowed a spammer to send some spam from our server. We noticed pretty quickly and shut it down and properly secured the server.

 A few hours later our ISP noticed that a new customer had sent out a whole lot of spam and decided to suspend our account! It then took a few hours to convince them to turn it back on.

We've also had a few problems with messages on the site containing special characters - this is now fixed.

 Despite all that it's been a good start with 27 members now after one day of the site being live.

Well we've finally got the site up and running. There's still one or two bugs to fix but we're getting there.
