pop in to napoleons just off canal street...is 3 floor bar for Tvs/ts and quite mixed.

men,women,tgirls,couples...like anywhere though can be hit n miss.

opens at 10, but doesnt get busier till after 12 id say.

in general most the bars have mixed crowds in

Start at the Minshull Street end, No1 is Taurus (bar/restaurant) is very relaxed and has a great atmosphere. Velvet next door is a bit up itself but its a classy operation. Other places along Canal St to try might be Churchills (noisy), Crunch, Oscars and really anywhere that takes your fancy. The advice above about Naps is sound, just by Naps, in Bloom St is Paddys Goose and in Ricjmond Street (in between Canal St and Bloom St) is Icon Bar, small but great fun.

Unfortunately there is a growing down side to canal street in the form of hen parties and stag do's. Groups of scantily clad young girls attract groups of d*unken young yobs who seem to think its fun to be loud and verbally abuse the gays and TVs.

Some of the bars will turn such groups away but there needs to be a blanket ban on these types. I know of many who won't go to canal street anymore due to these rowdy types.

I am all for good fun but when you get this kind of thing going on it does nothing to enhance canal streets reputation. and has driven and away.

If these people can't be respectful then they should keep out after all its the gay area of Manchester.

If you remove the first letters from canal and street, you get

Anal Treet

Quite ironic for the gay street in manchester

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

If you want to avoid the tourists then The Molly House or Sanctuary are good, as is Taurus.

On the other side of the canal, across a little footbridge, about halfway between Sackville St and Princess St.
