Are Aussies behind in their exploration of sexuality?

I have so many questions and would love to start a conversation. Have noticed and heard that so few Aussies are embracing swinging/open relationships/exploration of their sexual freedom.

It seems FAB in the UK is a very happening thing but downunder may be a different story? Is it just a case of other sites being more popular here? Are parties and clubs really a thing here? or really just in our biggest one or two cities? Maybe it’s simply an issue of distance between likeminded people?

Looking forward to your comments sexy people x x x

Sydney

I’ve been on Fab in some guise for about 10 year now from London to now Sydney. I think a lot of it comes down to demographics and other factors. From my experience the swinger side of things is generally a 30s+ and mainly a 40s+ demographic in the UK. There are other websites in Oz that I won’t mention (as usuallythis means a blocking / thread closing) but they are very much for the ONS / Casual sex side of things.

If you look at demographics and how certain age groups process communications then you have to remember that mid 30s and over are used to forums, message boards and other long form discussions. The younger demo are more a reddit and shorter more instant and definitely more visual. It’s why they fly through swiping left and right as opposed to discover substance etc.

In terms of how I view open / poly etc then there are definitely strong groups / meetups / munches etc and they are 100% on other sites although my experience is only of those in Sydney. I know that Melbourne has way more of a kink scene. I’ve noticed a LOT more late 20s / early 30s open to non monogamous relationships which is ( from my experience ) because whilst they are looking for the right primary partner they are a little tired of the constant “first date” so by having a non primary poly person it gives them someone slightly more than a FWB but also means that they can socialise when they like, seriously date when they like and also have no strings sex when they like whilst also having cuddle time and all of the “aftercare” that goes along with sex.

We lived in Adelaide and there were plenty of swingers there, you have to use different sites to contact them.

Sydney, NSW

I would add that the lack of population plays a factor in people’s willingness to explore their sexuality in Australia. Most people would prefer not to mix business and pleasure so there is a high concern of bumping into family, colleagues, or others when pushing the boundaries of sexuality.

I also think that the laissez faire sexual mentality of the Mediterranean has an influence on swinging in the UK.

I have no idea what the swinging, or any other, scene is like Australia, but I'd agree with you op when you say about the UK embracing alternative lifestyles. Our experiences have been mostly positive and have made an awesome network of friends.

Love your pics too
