22, should i go A2 or wait for full A

As the title says, i’m 22 and can now afford to get a bike as a toy/summer commuter. I’ve grown up riding bikes off road but never on the road and never anything more than a 300 2 stroke.
It’s a bit awkward with my age because i’m thinking I’ve waited all this time, do i do a cbt and get a 125 for the next 18 months then do direct entry full licence or should i go for the A2 licence and then have the cost again to upgrade further down the line? |

I guess it all depends if you want to start riding on the road now or wait another 18 months or so.
I went down the restricted route first, then as soon as I was old enough to get the unrestricted licence I went for it. Plus for you if wait an additional 6 months there is the progressive option which would help reduce the expense of that 2nd test. |

Depends what you want to get out of it. If you are just wanting to go to and from work and some ride out from time to time and nothing else then A2 might be worth it. As someone said you can ride a good range of bikes on that. Have a chat with any bikers that you might know and the people at your local test centre. Either way just do what is right for you. |

I went down the restricted route first, then as soon as I was old enough to get the unrestricted licence I went for it. Plus for you if wait an additional 6 months there is the progressive option which would help reduce the expense of that 2nd test."
What's the progressive option if you don't mind me asking?
Got my CBT Dec 2022 but with limited opportunities to ride in Scottish weather. Had to redo the CBT last April but again haven't managed to get out much. Now have a suzuki 650 waiting for me to get on and do the full license. Really don't want to lose this summer as well! Hubby has a yamaha 900 so really need to get a move on so I can keep up with him!!
I think I need to be more intentional about this rather than deferring to the weather all the time 😂 |

So from my understanding with the progressive option you wouldn't have to retake a bike theory test a second time if you have already past it once with doing the lower limited license.
If you already have a 650 waiting to be ridden there is the option of getting it restricted so you'd at least be able to get out on it. |

Think he's got his quotes mixed up if you've got a 650 (hope it's cbr not ninja) just get that test passed
Progressive is 19 a2 licence still a nightmare to insure anything especially with plastics
Then 21 A licence or you have to wait till 25 for direct access
Theory lasts 2years so get your timings right 19 and a few months then within weeks of turning 21
My boy just passed both mods 1st time with 1 lesson for each if you can ride just stay calm |
