It's bad etiquette old boy it's seen as shouting and no one likes a shouty person.

I have to laugh at thus stupid rule. Where in your head do you translate caps to shouting??? Is it because someone told you so???

Well I was told sex outside of marriage was against the rules too but go that weekly. VIVA LA CAPS

Check google or any other source.

Caps has always been considered shouting in chatrooms from the very start of the internet - usenet etc.

It's bad chatroom etiquette, along with 'pouncing' as soon as a female enters the room and spamming re Skype or wife pics etc. Have blocked people for all of the above.

I don't see it as shouting, I see it as trying to overpower the others writing in the room. If caps were allowed then everyone would use it, because it's pointless writing small as it gets missed when constant caps are used.

All capitals are very hard to read - much more so than the usual mix of upper and lower case.

Isn't every rule we follow because someone told us it's the rule?

"Isn't every rule we follow because someone told us it's the rule? "

It's just normal social interaction; and the rules of etiquette; and it has always been ( well since computers started to be able to use lower case) " netiquette " to do so

Most people meeting face to face, in " real life " don't bellow

"HELLO HOW ARE YOU?"

In someone's face. Would you socialise with someone who shouted all the time?

And if you use capitals ( shout) all the time, how can you show emphasis when you REALLY want to? ( see what I did there?) lol....

You Dont Need to Know, right now

"YOU DO IF YOU'RE TRYING TO GET THEM TO NOTICE YOU."

But as Kimi said 3 days ago, if capitals were allowed in the chatrooms, then everyone would do it. If you want to gain an 'edge' in the chatrooms, it needs to be through WHAT you say. Not by trying to shout down everyone else.

Sometimes it is done by accident, petty reason for a ban I think.

Have to say we find them more difficult to read than upper and lower case, so just don't bother to read messages that are using them.

I've never seen someone banned for a one off use, only those doing it constantly and ignoring the warning

That's why road signs are in "sentence" format.

And I've seen it when someone has had a brief lapse and left caps lock on, half the room has gone berserk. I still think it is a petty reason for a ban, but that is just my view.

You won't get banned for accidental use of capitals. We've all done it and probably will again. Often if you see someone get shouted down for using caps it's because they have been coming in and out of the rooms for as while doing it and the room gets fed up of it.

Also if you see someone get banned for using them as soon as they enter the room the chances are they have just done it in three other rooms before they got to yours and have a chat mod close on their tail lol

Or a mod has made a mistake in banning someone for one line of caps....it does happen
