Abfabs closing

Jump to: Newest in thread

The rumour mill appears to be back in swing again. We heard last night that Abfabs have lost the appeal against closure. Does anyone know if there is any truth in it?

The chap who told us said he had an email from them in the week. We have not heard anything though.

We were there last night, and yes they have lost the appeal and what we heard is that kestrels has been ordered to close but not abfabs parties

"Could it be cos less of single men?."

My assumption is licence application, nothing to do with members.

From my understanding its a planning issue

Yes, we was told it's on the planning issue. We never go to kestrels so that makes no difference to us but would be a shame is the party nights went as well. Although if its down to planning it seems strange that one goes and one stays?

.

I think the main point is will abfabs be able to stay open as a business without kestrels income

That's a good question. Abfabs was around for quite a while before kestrels opened, but I guess only the owners know the answer to that question.

Honestly we think it is a shame as a lot of work has been put into the club over the years.

"Whats the planning issue?"

That they did not obtain planning permission prior to erecting the outbuildings and converting the stables

They have lost in an Administrative Court. However, unless there are very strong reasons to throw the appeal out without deliberations, a judge will take the view that it is costly to demolish the outbuildings only to later have to pay for these to be re-built

As we understand it's to do with two buildings out near the stable block but honestly we are not sure that's the case. There has been quite a few rumours flying about over the past year or so.

Knaresborough

Yes the current appeal has been lost, it is over planning issues. The reason that it's different for abfabs is its run as a private members club and you have to book in advance to go.

Is it closing? Well not imminently for sure, whilst people keep going and there is an income generated they will fight, and we all know how long these things take.

It's about time the gossip mill shit up really, the staff there are very professional if and when there is no more avenues to fight they will no doubt tell us.

As a regular user I will enjoy it so the fight can last as long as it has to.

Just my tuppence worth

"Whats the planning issue?"

No planning permission for outbuidings

There is another thread about it somewhere, abfabs are claiming that they will appeal but there doesn't really appear to be any grounds
