My Kestrels membership is just for me.

The guy I'm going with hasn't been before so I've told him he has to bring two forms of ID.

I'm just trying to work out what the cost will be for us both.

There are no day passes anymore and he would have to pay a membership fee anyway as a single man, so it's almost certain that as a couple you will pay less overall, and if you intend going as a couple more than once definitely so.

Saturday evenings the venue becomes abfabs and different prices are in place and seperate memberships are required. Kesterels & abfabs are not interchangeable on fridays & saturdays.

Ah ha, that might explain the metal fencing around the venue. I think the Police must be helping the council gain access so they can serve the enforcement order and inspect the premises. I didn't get the email mentioned but Kestrels has created additional case law over the appeal and many many happy memories for lots of people. Will be such a shame to see them shut the doors for the last time

To be brutally honest, as a repeat visitor and an avid supporter of signing whatever is needed, without actually seeing what I have signed to support them, I feel beyond let down with the lack of transparency with everything that is going on with their fight to stay open. If they were more transparent, there would be no chinese whispers and less disgruntled folk around wondering if they will be open this time next week/year.

It's a farce.

That is my opinion, I have not come for an argument, nothing I have said is untrue.

Unfortunately I doubt very much if you or anyone is going to get a straight answer. I suspect that one day it will just close and that will be the end of that. Be under no illusions though the council want the place closed and closed it will be. This has happened to other venues in the past and the council have always won. They have extremely high resources at there disposal and its not only the council who are on there backs, the boys from health and safety are too and have been for a while and yes I did that information from the people who run the club. Don't get me wrong, I hate to see another venue shut but this only has one end and that is closure. We no longer attend for other reasons, which I have expressed in other threads, but we hope people enjoy the venue while its still there but as I have said this can't and wont carry on no matter what the owners & staff tell you.

We no longer attend for other reasons, which I have expressed in other threads, but we hope people enjoy the venue while its still there but as I have said this can't and wont carry on no matter what the owners & staff tell you."

There will be no closure on health and safety grounds etc as last year Kestrels got their act together on that and the fire safety side. It's a shame that a club that causes no hassle to the council or the village, separated as they are from housing, is being harassed for no good reason.

"To be brutally honest, as a repeat visitor and an avid supporter of signing whatever is needed, without actually seeing what I have signed to support them, I feel beyond let down with the lack of transparency with everything that is going on with their fight to stay open. If they were more transparent, there would be no chinese whispers and less disgruntled folk around wondering if they will be open this time next week/year.

It's a farce.

Unfortunately they didn't follow the law and the council have the law on there side. The only answer is to accept it, pack up and start again or give up and remember the memories. Councils have different outlooks depending on were you are, it just so happens that this council don't want a club on there patch. What the patrons want is neither here nor there. You can sign all the petitions you want but it won't make a blind bit of difference. Try going to the local MP and see if they can help, of course you'll have to wait for them to stop laughing before you get told to sod off! Lol. We are a minority and to a large part of society we are one that they like to point, laugh and sneer at. Thats just the way it is. Of course there is the argument that these people don't understand the reality of this life style, and they dont, but the truth is they don't want to understand it. Reading the tabloids version of events if much more fun than the truth. I know some people will view this as a defeatist attitude but I see it as realism. I have been on the scene for the thick end of twenty years and I won't give it up anytime soon but I accepted a long time ago that to most people this business is totally unacceptable and that that situation isn't going to change in a hurry and that is the problem that Abfabs is facing.

I was there a couple of weeks ago, someone fell out of the swing (or did it fail in some way don't know) and hurt their back and an ambulance was called. Don't know if that's linked, I suspect not but does illustrate a point. If you take money, whether a private club or not, you have a duty of care to those paying so I'm glad 'H&S are on their backs'. Its a business, not a hobby. Any number of disclaimers can't shield you from statutory obligations.

Yes it's good that H&S applies. However accidents do happen. We have seen somebody collapse after spending too long in the hot tub. That is despite the clear warning not to do so. It's wrong to even suggest the swing was at fault without knowing the facts.

I have been going to Kestrels for 6 years and I don't think there has ever been a reason to question their commitment to the safety and well-being of their members. And I don't see that this has changed in any way, nor has any relevance to their fight against closure, something that they have been dealing with for a considerable length of time.

I can categorically say that the swing was not at fault in this case. Suggesting that the club doesn't carry out its H & S responsibilities adequately is just another cheap shot at this well run and much loved venue.

Whats crazy about all this is the owner brought this on himself. If he had gone through the proper channels in the first place then there is a chance that none of this would be happening. I stress the word chance because it looks very much like the council want the place shut no matter what.

Tend to agree, as much I enjoyed the club, the spin and half truths from the owners are beginning to unravel, sacking their legal team to replace him with a man with a horrendous reputation who's not quite on the level on legal terms is a joke, smacks of desperation, on the h&s front they do not care, it's about the money.

I have at no time suggested that people should not attend. Where people decide to go is up to them. Correct information allows proper choices and there is nothing wrong with that.

This is an open forum, which is not owned or operated by abfabs, and with this in mind everyone has the right to say what they think and to give there own opinions.

Never been before, but saddened that s few people can ruin a fun place to go.

Most people that go are professional people that pay their tax's.

I presume the club pay their tax's as well.

Why can't they spend their time catching the scrounges instead!

Not sure what your point is? As far as I'm aware it's not HMRC who are trying to get the club closed, it's the Council due to planning issues.

It is the council, but I kind of see their point - Kestrels does pay their taxes, employs people and brings trade to the local convenience store and takeaway's. We don't do any harm, but still the place is hassled.

The reason the club is being "hassled" is because it broke the law on two fronts. If you built in your back garden without planning permission and started running an unlicensed club then you'd have the council on your back just like they have.

Those points are true but of course the shame is that it's an ideal location that causes no harm to anybody else and in fact provides employment, and of course recreational activities are allowed in the "green" belt if the council wanted.

You are quite right and agree that it doesn't cause any harm and it bring revenue to the local economy. Unfortunately councils run on a rules based system and those rules are generally not flexible. Maybe if the owner had followed the rules then this situation wouldn't be happening but I doubt it.
