Just had an email from BF cancelling my ferry for 30th June - Portsmouth/Caen.

They are saying no bookings now till 15th July.

I have cancelled it and re-booked with DFDS for same date. I sent an email to BF as suggested for a refund and it said it would reply within 3 weeks.

If this carries on I think they will lose a lot more customers.

Ferry from Dieppe to Newhaven yesterday at five had 23 people on it and here now to go back and only us and two other cars so more staff than passengers which makes me think that they can’t last much longer!!!

I hope that mine will not be cancelled - the only thing that is keeping the ferries going at the moment is the transporters as I think the government is giving some support to ensure goods arrive.

On the way back home and only 23 cars and 12 lorries.

It’s our favored route to Chichester and adding worthing in September for our youngest so we hope it survives

No it seems to be a passenger flying boat that crosses in 48 mins

It was on the News - few years off yet - it will be a type of hovercraft plane that does the journey very fast. They didn’t say if it would be big enough to take cars though or just passengers.

I've had my BF September return cancelled too. All other return crossings on the same day from BF are double the cost of what I'd originally booked and paid for. (More than a return usually costs.)

Email asks me to consider not phoning as the lines will be busy.

Thanks Brittany Ferries.

Yours Sincerely,

A loyal customer.

No it’s the Normandie, which is usually the one they always run from Portsmouth to Caen.

I have a return for mid September but have kept at moment cos if I cancel I might lose some money. I prefer coming back from Caen as it is a shorter journey from my house there. I prefer BF also because it’s a nicer crossing, even though it costs a lot more. I already changed my mind about being resident in France and now I am seriously considering selling my house there.

Well BF customer service was good again - I had my payments for cancelled crossing paid back yesterday.

Am crossing on Wednesday and had lots of stuff to organise - extra to pay for car insurance as they only cover for 30 days now, 2 cats on U.K. passports had to have the new Health certificate- £215 for the 2 on one cert and will have to go to near Gatwick for my Covid test as the nearer option didn’t have any appointments for two weeks. Macron looks like he will make me isolate now - I don’t care about that as I will have lots to do and French isolation allows you to go out for 1 hour a day for essential items and exercise.

Hope your crossing went smoothly and no hassle?

I crossed a week ago, unaware of the restrictions on alcohol and food ! Thankfully the french authorities were busy checking a removals lorry!

I personally try to avoid them now. Lost 500+ pounds last years because of covid and they never refunded back. Now their price is more expensive. I ise DFDS cheaper even if it is 3h more drive.

How is the onboard service quality at the moment?

Yes it was very smooth and almost empty - even few hgv’s. The cafeteria was open for breakfast and lunch but I took some sandwiches with me in case they were closed and just bought coffee.

I received a full refund from BF after a few days so can’t complain about their customer service.

DFDS had their cafeteria open for breakfast and lunch with limited range. Very attentive service with the manager personally greeting the few customers on board. The shop opened for a few hours at lunchtime. Hopefully they will get busier when schools close. I have seen French tourists on holiday locally but it’s very quiet and most Brits are ones who live here post Brexit.

Will be interesting on Weds to see how many visitors we get to the festivities.

I had ferries from Portsmouth to St Malo cancelled on the 2nd May, 28th June, 12th of July and 20th of July and all the associated return journeys, BF have been good as gold refunding the trips, I'm due out mid August fingers crossed.
