I'm looking to book somewhere start of march either Austria or France. Only been to France skiing as a child so where's good for a beginner (2nd ski holiday) and an intermediate, good range of slopes, good apres ski and hopefully good snow start of march time |

With climate change affecting snowfall it is hard to be able to rely on smaller resorts being fully open with beginner and intermediate slopes fully open so you have to look at the higher resorts and probably the Alpes du Nord.
Alpes d'Huez is a high lively resort with beginner slopes on your doorstep although they do get impacted by the sun in the afternoon.
Tignes, very high so snow almost guaranteed as is Val Thorens. Both have plenty of nightlife and good skiing.
Whatever you choose, go high... |

Yes was thinking that. I want to avoid half term time too. 2 years ago we went to Bulgaria, it wasn't half term in northern Ireland but was half term for some of the UK, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria so it was chaos. |

Agree with the above, Austria is quite a low lying ski area, so you can't g'tee snow late in the season. I taught my daughters to ski in Alpe D'huez for 10 seasons, highly recommend if you can't get to Austria (about 1/2 the cost in resort!) |

As stated above you need to go above 2,000 metres to be reasonably snow sure. French school holidays end Mar 8 so the week after that will be good, and quieter.
We will be in La Plagne at that time, worth considering, they'll have plent of snow then. |

None of any significance that would affect business of the resort |

Parts of Austria is lower than some French resort but higher than others. And it is a long way east. The snow comes in from a different direction, along with that mostly you are skiing on grazed pastureland so need very little snow unlike the rock strewen areas of the French alps
Don’t write it off. I was there last week and there was fantastic snow |

Absolutely!
Skied a lot in Austria and it is beautiful.
Lots of high resorts and glacier skiing as well so definitely snow but, in general, French resorts are higher and (especially later in the season) more likely to have snow longer.
The reality is that with the weather theses days being so finicky, "you takes your pick and makes your choice".
The low lying resorts near where I live have fantastic snow at the moment and I will likely go there before Christmas (40 minutes by car to ski an area with 125km of pisted slopes is be pretty good!) but as a whole I tend to plan longer trips to the higher resorts for guaranteed snow. |

"The Sybelles ski area in the maurienne valley, we’ll be there a lot from Boxing Day until 3rd April. "
Gosh, there aren'tany who have even heard of the Sybelles Domain.
I have a friend who owns a chalet there and we normally spend a few long weekends skiing based out of Le Corbier.
I was there last weekend walking and there is already a reasonable amount of snow - a lot more fell during the week and is still falling...
In Courchevel at the moment (Le Praz) and it is snowing heavily. Some good skiing today but poor visibility - should be better tomorrow.
Looking good for across the Alpes and Christmas holidays at the moment providing this continues. |

We have a place in Saint Sorlin, and spend most of the winter and a good few weeks in the summer too. Don’t tell too many people as it’s still relatively unknown to uk, although crystal have just started going there. |

I like that area of the Domain - some great pistes and a restaurant that I quite like for lunch (on the piste).
We usually work our way over to there at least once each time we visit working our way from La Toussuire hence taking in most of the resort.
Also nice in the summer and I have ridden over from the Grenoble side (Oz and the Crois de Fer) on my motorcycle a few times.
I don't think I have ever heard anyone speaking English so it will be interesting, next time I am there, to see if I notice any difference!
Enjoy your time there and have a good season - and you are right ssshhhh! |

"Has anyone booked through Heidi or Weski before?
If so are they legit? "
As we understand Heidi are experts at doing non standard stuff. Long weekend, Al Carte in terms of flights, transfers accommodation.
We have a trip in April that meets the remit and we’ll will use them.
We’re on the Alps right now and their name has popped up in positive light a few times |

I will be going to Morzine again end of Feb/start of March. I have never been disappointed there, and with the Portes du Soleil pass giving access to Avoriaz, snow is as probable as you can get, along with fantastic low-mid range ability skiing ⛷️

Correncon/Villard de Lans Monday and Tuesday given that with so much snow falling at the moment, it would be a shame not to take advantage of a sunny forecast for next week.
Powder, no wind and sunshine - great! |

Just back from Val d'Isère (skied there today).
Fantastic snow cover and conditions - the best I have seen for a few years.
Visibility was poor as there were low clouds and ...more snow falling.
Avalanche risk was 4 out of 5 but the forecast tomorrow onwards (until at least Wednesday) is sunshine.
The forecast from Mont Blanc down to Grenoble is basically sunny and with such great snow you will find good skiing anywhere so next week is ideal! |

First year for us with no plan yet.
Usually Val D isere for as as high and we love the resort.
Our usual group has got a bit fragmented tge last couple of years so looking for new ski buddies as we love a group.
Interesting to see Val Centis mentioned a few times , we stayed overnight in our campervan on a trip over the Col de Iseran and wondered what it was like. |

Val Cenis is a lovely resort to ski. Most slopes are north facing so hold snow really well and it’s also cost effective. We have an apt down the valley in St Michel de Maurienne and drive up to Val Cenis each time we are over - inexpensive on the mountain to eat, ski passes are good value and also allow you to ski at Valfrejus, La Norma, Aussois and the hidden gem of Bonneval Sur Arc. You would find it very different to Val D’Isere as few Brits visit Val Cenis which makes it even better in my eyes! |

Anyone going by road to 3 valleys, Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes or Val D’Isère at the moment needs to be aware of a landslip on the road between Albertville and Moûtiers
It hasn’t been fully cleared yet and is causing huge delays on Saturdays as traffic is restricted.
If you are getting a transfer or driving then be ready for big delays, especially now French school holidays will be starting |

All clear now. It was a big one, well two 150tonne boulders
Amazing that no one was seriously injured and that they had they road open in less than a week |

A good time to go before the school holidays start (tonight).
Good snow and conditions across the Alpes and I will ski locally tomorrow then leave the busy slopes alone until March when the holidays end.
Have fun everyone and ski safe |

"Anyone no what the snow has been like this year in Andorra as I gave it a miss this year and went to val thorens instead "
It’s been ok. Without there being any really big dumps of snow, the piste coverage has been fine. Away from pistes and it’s a bit crusty. Forecast for the rest of the week is good. |

Whilst what you say is true, if everyone stays in large French resorts, then it means other places are less busy/better value. I’ll take that! |

I go there every year with the local ski club as well as Les Arcs and found that La Plagne is a very good resort. Lots of small villages which are linked, a large variety of slopes, good snow cover as it is high and great views from the peaks.
It is of course also linked to Les Arcs so, you can buy a pass for them both if you want to cover the miles. |

I was there last week after riding over the Col de la Croix de Fer.
Stayed on the B&B hotel at Saint Jean De Maurienne which suited our needs but was pretty basic.
The following day we rode up the Col du Madeleine and down to Albertville.
I ski the Le Sybelles in the winter out of Le Corbier and agree that it is wonderful domain to ski. |

Starting to plan next years ski trips. Thinking of trying to get away 17th 34th or 31st January, probably Austria fancy StAnton or possibly Ischgl.
And then short break early March, might also try for a sneaky extra if fight prices work out OK early Jan.
Would love to be out somewhere and bump into some fellow FAB members just never know best places to go, I much prefer Austra and Italy especially Dolomites to France but Geneva is easy to fly to from Edinburgh for short trips, but staying away from Dolomites this year due to Olympics just think it will be crazy busy 🙈🤷
Probably won't book anything until September |

I avoided Meribel years ago when they had the Olympics, turned out to be a big mistake, slopes were empty. Evening you could get free tickets to the Ice Hockey as long as it wasn't France or Canada playing. All from the hosts we met the following week. But that was way back last century!! |

I might have another look and see as I absolutely love the variety of skiing in the Sellaronda, but Austria is top of my list just now , fancy trying St Anton again (only done 2 days there) or Ischgl but still looking |
