Forest fire near Cap

This morning we watched two coach loads of clothed muggles arrive at Cap so decided it was time for a roadtrip.

We went to Marseillan but in the distance saw smoke so we followed it. The fire was further than we thought, beyond Montagnac then cross country through the vines until we could see and hear the flames. The Canadairs spent the day waterbombing the flames, most impressive, those pilots are brave! Got some great photos but it must be awful for the people living nearby as it certainly wasn't contained by the time we left.

Back at Cap now and the muggles have gone..

Agde

We went for a bike ride today, saw the smoke but it was too far to cycle closer. Three planes were continuously circling and dropping water for around 5 hours (to our knowledge) and were still going when we got back.

There was a smaller one closer to us this week, luckily it was spotted quickly and dealt with.

Heavy fines and a spell in prison is on the cards for those who are negligent if these fires spread.

As you say, brave guys and gals in the front line. Two firefighters died near us last year at the scene of a forest fire.

There have been some fires which have been started by arsonists! Fires have been in Bessan, Vias, St Thibery & several other places. Those driving on A75 will see the extent of the damage when driving to cap.

Interesting to see that several of the fires in Sicily were started by retained part time fire men!

Seems they saw it as a way to make more money as they are paid on an hourly basis as and when called upon.
