"Why are there more English moving to France...? "

Well as long as they follow the freedom of movement rules, which have been in force since 2004, they will be ok!

Or they could just be leaving to beat the deadline of 2021!

The UN are already looking at this issue (Brits in trouble) and have been advertising for staff to run a project in Normandy/Brittany. It will be providing help and assistance after the end of the year from those stuck with French bureaucracy

A very interesting article. The most important bit seems to hinge around getting accepted as legally resident and proving you can support yourself. I bet most people didn't appreciate that requirement and assumed free movement was exactly that and had no idea of the hidden catch in the small print.

Well if that is the terms and conditions of the country ...you abide by the rules or leave ...still the little rat won't be in charge in just over two years time so probably more changes ahead

Some say “French bureaucracy”, others say “looking after the national interest”......

Apparently the French have deported over 3,000 Brits since 2016 under the freedom of movement rules!

Wow, I live here (in France) and had not appreciated that in the last four years 3000 Brits had been deported.

It has been reported on Facebook groups specialising in advice for residents! I'm suprised you have not seen it?

In total 3,367 orders to leave France were issued to EU citizens in 2017 because of failure to meet the legal residence conditions.

That’s the quote from an official report. Not just UK but citizens from across the EU. Most ordered to leave because they didn’t have a legal right to stay and didn’t have sufficient income to support themselves.

The 2018/19 figure was around 1300€ p month I think

"Why are there more English moving to France...? "

You could also ask why so many French are living and working in England, especially London

The UK has the largest French population outside of mainland France - larger than the French dependencies

In the UK almost all the French are employed and pay into the tax etc system

In France the majority of UK residents are retired/not working/not paying tax etc so economically the UK government will feel it financially if all French left.

Conversely the same is not true if we all left France!

It can't be a Humanitarian Crisis until Bob Geldoff tells you to "Just send the F*****G Money"

Or having some ITV Journalist asking how you feel about having to go back to the UK.

Maybe time to start a new tv series entitled "A new life not in the Sun"

"And the 7th largest city of French citizens is.....?

It’s often been quoted that London has the 5th to 7th largest French population but truth is that nobody knows for sure since EU citizens have not been required to register their nationality up to now.

Certainly we know of younger French friends who have left or are planning to leave London this year after many years Résidence.

You're right, no one knows for sure, but there are various sources that estimate around 250,000 live in London.

I think you will find that a sizeable chunk (if not a majority) of those deported were actually Roma who had been living rough in illegal camps.

They do know the numbers in the UK via those who have registered with the NHS.

France meets the health bill in the same way there is a reciprocal agreement here
