Menston near Ilkley

The saying 'God save me from Hull, Hell or Halifax'came about from Hull and Halifax both having Gibbets (gallows).

They weren't gallows they were Guillotines , i think their is still a replica of the guillotine on Gibbet street in Halifax

That was several years ago, but it was always the same reviews printed year after year.

That was then; it's improved a heck of a lot!

I went to uni in Hull and spent many a hazy night at LAs, waterfront and the legendary Tower! So many good memories!

I went back to Hull last year for work and they have tidied it up quite a lot since I left - although I was gutted that they knocked down LAs and built a shopping centre on it!

Yeah I've been out of Hull for a long time and it's changed.

Actually LAs is now the Hilton Hotel and the bar on the top floor is called the Lexington

" They weren't gallows they were Guillotines , i think their is still a replica of the guillotine on Gibbet street in Halifax "

This is correct. The Gibbet is a guillotine. Gibbets or gibbeting is hanging a body from gallows though, so not sure how it got it’s name.

Beverley

I hate Halifax, everytime I drive through it to get to Sowerby Bridge and beyond, I get lost, even with the Satnav. And if I get lost twice in Halifax, then I know it's going to be a real bad day.

I learnt my lesson years ago and avoid Halifax by coming off the M62 at the next exit when heading West and avoid the place.
