There's no shortage of beautiful places in Ireland, particularly on the west coast.

I'm also undecided as to what part of the country to go to. So feel free to message me about places. Thanks guys

West coast was definitely planned. Drive West Cork into Kerry all way up along the coast to Galway

Dublin

Good luck getting a good deal with a staycation. Prices have gone up and availability is low. I know several people who gave up looking.

We booked our regular spot as soon as the dates for lifting travel restrictions were announced.. like within the hour of the announcement, and we got the last cottage rental in the development. I think there are still hotel breaks though.

Prices are suppose to be extremely high yes, heard that. I've the possibility of barrowing a mates VW Camper van so that could be on the cards

It’s all a bit of a rip off in Ireland - what’s new

Better off looking at renting a boat or just camping close to a supermarket and pub

The price we got was the same as its been for the last 3 years so not everyone is hiking up the prices.

That's true I guess, some places are still doing good deals. Try to find them is the hard bit

To be fair most places are dealing with debt as they were closed for ages, plus they have increased cleaning costs... at the same time as increased demand. I wouldn't blame anyone for putting up prices. Don't like it don't pay it.

There are great prices available when you compare to the same peak time in previous years, lots of empty hotel rooms.

I've can't remember the last time you could get a 4 star hotel in galway in July for 89 euro.

Yeah found place in Galway for quiet cheap actually considering. Like the idea of the VW Camper Van atm currently. The idea of driving to where I want and stopping and continuing on whenever I want to

Exactly, many establishments are now going to be struggling to survive, with only a few weeks of peak season left.

Ireland

From what I've seen, it's basic supply and demand. Same as most industries. Book early and you'll get a good deal.

Article in one of the weekend papers about great deals throughout the Midlands, Leitrim, Roscommon and other counties.

Obviously you'll pay more for a house by the beach.

If we were guaranteed good weather it would be ace.

In May I bought my beautiful 4 metre canvas bell tent for the same price to go glamping in a similar tent for four days. So my holidays have being on Costa Del Front Garden. My little holiday retreat has kept me sane during lockdown. I get to escape the kids for a while and listen to the canvas gentle billow as I read my book. I am packing it up soon to take it on the road for my holidays in the West of Ireland.

Plenty of deals to be had but as someone else mentioned a lot of places will struggle to make up for all they have lost while closed yes the government may be giving grants etc but we all know how many loopholes etc a company etc is made go through and a lot probably won't even be eligible.

Shop around for deals and support the smaller chains.

Down in West cork this week. Beautiful spot and I brought my bike to head out cycling. Place is relatively quite bar one family of American tourists who I saw being asked to leave a shop yesterday for not having masks. When the original restrictions were brought in it cut off the first two days of our trip so we had to get a refund for those days. When the restrictions were lifted we rebooked but she added €200 to the original cost. Rip off Ireland is alive and well. As for added cleaning costs, their are none because unless someone brings in professionals with spraying equipment the cost remains the same. I don't have much sympathy for airbnb owners at the best of times but this year with such huge losses I'll live with it (because she left wine and fruity craft beer in the fridge for us) . Off out on the bike I go, if any one in cork sees a blow in struggling up a hill do say hi

Most businesses.. and particularly hotels and other places where people sleep have been told they have to do enhanced cleaning and disinfecting which DOES cost more. It's not just a hotel room, it's all areas of a hotel including all guest communal areas and areas behind the scenes like the kitchen or staff rooms, toilets, reception areas etc. The cost needs to be covered somehow. House rental places need to do a lot more disinfecting between guests. Very few of these places are bought and run from cash. They often have heavy borrowings which had to be paid even when closed. If we want to have a tourism industry when this all calms down then we will need these businesses to be profitably operating.

Never said anything about hotels and I also said I was happy to live with the cost but that cost for apartments or cottages are not on the same planet when it comes to cleaning costs. Originally Airbnb said all homes need 24hours between guests to allow for cleaning. The cul de sac we are in has 6 holiday homes and we had a BBQ Monday night. This came up in conversation. All homes had people leave on the Saturday morning, all had a check in time of 4/5 pm. None of the houses have wall mounted hand sanitizer stations and in ours we have one 500ml, no obvious signs of extra precautions to cover the extra cost most of us had to pay. Now the house is spotless but apart from elbow grease there are no extra costs for these homes.
