Is there many runner's on here?

I'm only new to it, a little over a year, but love it. It's great for the mind and body. I just thought it was be a bit of fun to post our goals for 2021 and pb's so far. And hopefully we all achieve them.

Mine are:

5k pb 19.53 goal sub 19

10k pd 42.00 goal sub 40

Half pb 93.45 goal sub 90

Mar pb 4.15.23 goal sub 4hrs

You should be able to do sub 4 based on your other times , I did two sub 4 marathons a few years back after following a plan along the names of “ how to run a marathon in 3hrs 59”, managed to do them in 3 hr 55 then 3 hr 49

They are great PBs for the shorter distances so should be aiming for around 3hr or below marathons, you've got the speed, just need the endurance which will come with the right training, my 5k pb is 21 mins and full marathon is 3:34

That was pre 2020, be lucky to do 5k in 25mins

Good luck!

I just use the strava or garmin training plans. I've used the garmin plan for the half marathon and thought it helped me very much

Really good 5k time. My goal has always been sub 20mins. Think the best I got was 20:11. Some people just seem to be able to hammer out 5ks, I seem to struggle despite having decent stamina.

Yes I love that quote. I may have to add it to my repertoire.

We all have PBs but we don't go waving them about in people's faces. Modesty is nice or a little word foreplay. I think 2021 you might add communication to your challenges. Well done on your achievements.

I made a huge mistake on the marathon, when I did the half marathon in that time I stupidly thought the full would be ok all I had to do was slow down the pace, then work got really busy and I did have the time for long distance training, so I basically only tried the full distance 3 time, one each weekend before I did it. I couldn't believe how wrong I was. The last 10k was hard but the last 5 was a killer. The only thing that made me keep got was the fact that I did a sponsorship for temple St kids hospital and raised just under 2k lol. I'll make sure to train properly for it this year

Going for sub 3 hour marathon this year if any of them happen. Joined a running club in last two years and improved all my PBs. Sub 19 min 5km, sub 40 min 10 k and sub 90 min half. Speed training and intervals are hard but very effective for all distances. Great for dresses too.

I've recently started Running with some ladies in my village.

I'm not at the stage of recording personal beats yet, but I did run 25 miles in December and on my way to 50 miles in January for a cancer charity.

I couldn't run to the end of the road 4 months ago

Anyone got any tips on how to avoid or nurse shin splints.

It's the one exercise I cant do whether long or short distance road, beach or grass running.

Tried compression socks. €200 runners and still the same result.

pain and suffering

I'd be grateful if anyone had any tips

It doesnt matter about times, just be out on the road/ trails and enjoy it and the benefits it brings

I did a virtual marathon in lockdown 2 , trained and did it all and am now trying to run as many days as possible in 2021, to average at least 5km per day . Missed one day so far as my body said no, but I fit in old clothes and am happy.

Your dead right, just getting out is brilliant. That's some going trying 5k a day. So if you miss a day do you run extra for the next few days to bring the average back up?

Yep, missed Friday due to ice and sore legs so 10k Saturday made up for it. Getting out of the door is the hard part but once you are out , you can just go.

Good luck to anyone out there on their own, especially the newbie runners who may feel self conscious ......but a run is being better than sat on the couch

No guarantees but have heard changing running style and landing more on middle/front of foot rather than heel helps. It takes pressure going up to shins and knee and balances impact across the foot. Also maybe reduce volume of running and only increase slowly as you can manage.

I jog 4-5K 5 days a week since May 2020, but nowhere as fast as the OP. Still, running is a great way to clear up the head and a good habit to have to be able to get outside in any weather.
