Dirk thinks Dr Marten shoes are sexy.
I think Dr Martens are ugly and that stupid yellow string running along the sole is there just because people like to show off a branded shoe.
What do you think?

What do you love about them if you don't mind me asking ?
Is it the shape of the shoe or brand itself?
Do you equally love any other boot that doesn't have a yellow thread?
Genuinely curious about what people find so attractive about them |

I love and have been wearing chunky gothic boots with platforms instead of heels for years, I find Dr Martens the least chunky and least gothic boot you can find - this is why I don't understand the attraction to them
(Not arguing or having a go, just trying to figure it out) |

I love them, for comfort, for me. I do also love wearing them with fishnets or stockings (with socks very carefully folded down to protect the hosiery from scratches )
I've owned many pairs over the years, comfy enough to walk forever in, heavy enough that if I need to kick they will hurt the recipient, light enough to run away in after said kick to the shin.
I've worn them everywhere from work to weddings and looked pretty damn awesome in them. My legs ain't skinny or long but I -am- comfy, and that's no bad starting point to feeling awesome!

"They make them without the yellow stitch now. I personally don't like the yellow either.
But without the yellow stitch nobody would be able to say "oh look I spent £200 on these boots" "
I had black ones with white stitching and white soles. They made me cry with pain just to have them on my feet never mind walk. I sold them on for more than I paid for them brand new |

I used to owe a few pairs many years ago I never thought they lasted that long considering the price of them. I bought them because I liked them though the yellow string was the one thing I didn't particularly like. But back when I was buying them they were the only decent clumpy boots for women which is what I preferred to wear.
Once I found a local army surplus store though I bought from there rather than paying for Dms.

Once upon a time that yellow tag was a sign of quality and you KNEW it would last years. That's why a kudos was associated with it. The association with quality goes hand in hand with the brand. It wasn't bought just because of the tag, it was that the tag meant something. These days unfortunately the production has shifted to other countries who could do it cheaper, and cost increases led to using different grades of materials, plus fashion trends led to compromises of style over quality and ruggedness. Not the brand it used to be unfortunately, but then what is. Fast fashion etc. |

The traditional 'oxblood' are old hat now, but young women, in particular, are now wearing increasingly ornate DMs including boots that are embroidered, that are really eye-catching.
Some versions are works of art, they are so attractive, even to an old guy. |

Your totally missing it ... its not cause the cost alot ... its cause when we were shitbags so were some of the greatest grunge and rock bands in the world... this makes for a truly iconic boot |

I had a pair of original DMs decades ago, that were much superior in quality than what is currently available; apparently there are different grades of DMs, the best quality, and most expensive, being the DMs that are still made in Northampton.
The soles of the version that is made in Vietnam are absolutely rubbish: the sole is thin and is unsupportive; it visibly splays after a short time.
The very best DM-style boots are those made in the original DM factory by Solovair, especially their Astronaut boot. |

You went with a Pascal style. Which is the narrowest style they do. Would say a hard leather style would suit your legs more and definitely lower style.
I would recommend maybe the 1461 Audric. It's the only shoes from DR Martens that I have and love. I normally go for the boots.
But yes that specific style does not suit you unfortunately |

Difference in my eyes is basically individual taste when it comes to different brands. Now what I listed is just different soles they do within the brand.
Me personally I always loved the brand. When it comes to quality it's a bit more complicated. I think they also don't last as long cause ppl don't care for their leather boots as well as they used to.
But I get why some love it and some don't. If you have had proper goth boots in the past I also get why you would not get why ppl love docs as much. As they don't have a patch on those shoes.
Hope I make sense

That's the thing - I do wear proper goth boots. Love Demonia brand. Love chunky platforms, leather, good quality, all of the things you named above.
DM brand and style to me is something so overdone and copied almost precisely by every other brand so much from primark to river island - I don't see it authentic or edgy (how people describe it), I just see it as a regular primark boot with a huge price tag and a yellow string attached.
Hope my point of view makes sense too x

Totally makes sense. I hate how mainstream docs have gotten. And I think that is why maybe you also don't get the hype. I know I hate seeing the dupes. Plus docs for me are more punk then goth and there is a big difference between the 2 that most people also don't get.

Well, I find them chunky ..but not in a 70s glam rock or Herman Munster styler obvz!
Then again I'm going back years when the only other option for streetware boots were steelys or monkeyboots.
Can't abide the brand new look of DMs, I wear new pairs in for weeks before going out in them ..polishing off the bright red with a black overtone. Then again, I'm still 70s/80s punk ..at least in my head |

I was a massive Doc fan when I was growing up.. had numerous pairs and they were honestly the most comfortable boot I've ever worn once you broke them in. My daughter has a pair now and looks brilliant in them but quality wise they're not great. As was mentioned above, the yellow tag and thread meant they were original and good quality. And if you got a kick from one you knew all about it |
