Is it possible for a topic to be taken down without the op being told?

Yep. If the thread is sufficiently all het up the admins sometimes just wipe it for the greater good. A few temporary forum bans might get handed out too.

You are never told why or when a thread is removed.

The only reason you'll get told is if your getting a ban. So no news is essentially good news.

Most threads about a certain chat app get removed.

Just heard about that through a private message. Anyway I got my point across.

The rules are strictly enforced. It's best to be familiar with them. I'd prefer mods comment on threads and lock them rather than disappearing them, but the owners can choose to do as they please.

It's usually the case that people will report individual posts if they are particularly offensive or aggressive

Do posts in threads disappear? Or as they marked as “removed by moderator”?

I think threads get removed if other chat or other sites are mentioned rightly so .. and what happened in Dublin last week threads was removed
