I just take staff out for a 5pm dinner for 2 hours. Enough time to say thankyou. It doesn't disturb anyone's life too much, even the most antisocial or the team can stand it for two hours, noone gets too d*unk. Perfect

Ours is just a piss up at a pub, whoever wants to go, goes. D*unkenness will ensue and tales told around the shop next week but hey that's half the fun of it

This all day long....lucky to have a good restaurant near the office and we all go on the last day and no one apart from me goes back to work

Op.....just go along with the idea that your going and get sick on the day if you can't face telling people that you don't want to go

I'm trying to get out of mine too. Can't handle it this year, too many two-faced people to be dealing with and I'm getting too old for that shit.

Christmas parties to show staff appreciation are scarce. Go and get yourself the meal or the free drink n you can always say you’ve other plans made, eg dropping someone to the airport; you’ve to walk your 3 legged dog; you’ve piles etc lol;

I had to meet a group from a previous job. Only the ladies showed up I thought holy fk, I’ll stay for 2 free drinks and go on then to lads. Bottom line the ladies were super craic, worse than the lads - talking about this and that lad that would pass was a useless ride, etc holy god was great fun

When we first moved out of the city, I still travelled in to all the leaving parties, Xmas parties etc. Until one night I just couldn't be bothered and guess what, they hardly even noticed me missing!

Life is short. So my advice is unless a promotion is imminent, do whatever the hell you want to do and stop worrying about everyone else.

Self employed, so I haven't been to one in years. I'd love to be invited, though.

Thankfully, that's 1 problem I don't have, with the place I work in, as I've never been to any of them in the past. They didn't have 1 last year, as far as I know. This is going to be my last 1 with them. I can't be arsed going to it. They do my head in, enough at work, that I can't be arsed to go out on the piss with them.

It's been over 20 year's, sence I was at 1 of them & I don't feel I'm missing anything either.

Ah it's moments like this where Nikki is delighted she works in a primarily male work environment, only herself and another girl with about 15 men so no competition or bullshit.

You can always ring in sick to the party you do not want to go to. Go to the one you will enjoy the most.

Yes, mine is an overnight in a hotel..... Meal, entertainment etc. I know it sounds great, but not when there are redundancies and daggers at dawn. If it was just 2 or 3 hours it would be grand, but 24 hours together...... Resentful, as not as much money coming in as expected. Awkward!!!

I'd just tell people I'm not going and thats it .....no reason needs to be given just that you can't make it

I was never keen on work related Christmas parties because I don't like Christmas and it was just an excuse for people to get pissed and fight which happened almost every year.

As the only non drinker in the company I was not only the designated driver for others but I was also the referee and had to break up more fights than I care to remember.

The funny part was that as pissed as they all were not one of them ever took a swing at me.

It was a pain in the hole taxiing everyone afterwards when there were no cabs available. The only good thing was that I've never had to buy a drink at any Christmas party because of all that and have never been allowed to put anything in the kitty.

The last one I was at was in 2019 with a company I had only joined that year so as manager I felt an obligation to go.

It was no different to all the others with fights between both men and women and I ended up with a 50 mile detour on the way home to drop off 2 senior managers.

I told them all the following week that I wouldn't be attending any more work dos because of that and then covid hit and I haven't been to one since because I lost that job and there are only 2 of us in my current workplace.

To answer your question op the best way is to be upfront and say you don't enjoy them so you aren't going.

I just say I don't want to go when there is one on that I don't want to attend. There is no obligation to go to a Christmas or any work party .

Nathing wrong with the dags…

I’d not be too concerned about the impression I’m missing only if I’m new and I am this year so I feel obliged to go to both of mine

I was reluctantly going to go to mine. Multinational company making billions every year... then they asked us to pay to supplement the one hour free bar and finger food so that immediately gave me an excuse not to go!

I said I wasn't going from the get go.

I don't drink, it's in another town and they are making us pay for the whole night. My company doesn't even pay Xmas bonus so why should I pay for a Xmas party.

Feck em I'll suffer missing out of the few after party convos and making a fool of myself and spend the money on proper night out swinging

I've never had my Christmas party paid for.

Always had to pay for the meal and night out. Luckily I like my coworkers so I enjoyed going.
