Have you ever been turned down for a job you really wanted and knew that you would be good at how did you get over your disappointment and anger at not getting the job just feel like such a failure all I wanted was a chance to prove myself

Yes, it happened to me twice.

Both in different fields, both incredible chances of a lifetime. But I got on with my life and did other things.

Sorry to hear of your woes, OP. Hopefully you'll get another chance.

You can ask for feedback if you took a interview, that's if you took a interview. To see where or why you didn't get the role.

As disappointing as it is, maybe go with it wasn't meant to be. Things happen for a reason and your chance will come again. Don't give up..best of luck for future chances

I've never had a dream job and the last time I applied for any job was in 1984.

I've had 4 different roles since and they all approached me and offered the jobs.

The last one I had I thought was going to be my ideal job even if it wasn't something I'd ever dreamt of doing but it turned out to be a nightmare and I was glad when covid cutbacks put an end to that.

I walked away from the one job I knew I was better at than everyone else because I wasn't appreciated and in the six years since I take great pleasure in saying no to the MD when he rings a couple of times a year begging me to go back.

I could be earning 3 times what I get now but it's not worth the hassle anymore.

Not quite the same but I wanted to be a paramedic for years, doing voluntary work and going to it for college. Medically I just couldn't become one. It broke my heart at the time.

Now looking forward, after a gap year I'm doing law and loving it. Really finding myself.

It's not a bump you want but it's a bump you're able for, and will come back stronger from OP

I went foe a job as a veterinary nurse when I was 18 and just missed out as the other candidate had experience. Just as well, I'd have spent most days crying I think. Since then I always got the job I wanted. And a few I didn't 🤣

3d modeler, impossible to even land an interview. Over 15 years studying and can't even get an internship. Gaming industry is falling apart ATM. Tech is not the way to go. Wish I had learned a trade and left country when I was younger.

As a 3d modeler, would you consider making models for 3d printing all selling them on patreon etc?

Seems to be an ok way for some people to make a bit of side money

Far far away

Chasing the dream..when you get it may become a nightmare. I hit the glass ceiling so many times, I've splinters.

Now working is on my own terms. Refuse to be judged by the biases of others. After 35 years of work.. rejection is part of the cycle of work. Just 10 years to retire... 🤣🤣

It's an idea all right. I'd need a 3d printer to test models. Not an area I've ever explored. I might have just landed a trade job. So I'll prob retire the 3d dreams to a hobby on the weekends. Ai hasn't helped the situation either

I've a fdm printer and limited 3d skills, enough to do small bits .

AI with 3d tend to be terrible, could be a side gig after the trade job. Congratulations on that.

To the OP, I've been in the same company for last 19 years since I left college. Worked from chemist in the lab up to equivalent to supervisor. Didn't like the role so moved to a digital role. Not my ideal job, lots in it that I'm interested in, just as much I'm not, but I'm alot happier.

I lucked myself into my current role in a field I didn't even know existed. Sometimes the doors of opportunity only open when we say fuck it and take chances.

OP don't give up hope but grab any opportunity with both hands.

Don’t worry about it! There is no such thing as a dream job. The grass is always greener on the other side. Someone else got the job (for whatever reason) and you’re naturally feeling down about that. Pick yourself up, life is too short to dwell and you’ll regret that more than the job or anything else we may dwell upon.

It wasn't so much being turned down for a job as a promotion. The boss told me I was a prick and he'd fire me if he could.

Sometimes I hate being self employed

It's never too late. You are young yet. When my son did electrical there were loads of re-trainers on his course. Some had degrees. Just couldn't catch a break.

Aw I'm so sorry.

I didn't lose out on a job but I did lose out on a course in Journalism I wanted. I applied late, and it was oversubscribed. I went on a waiting list. I still love writing now. But I'm in a totally unrelated field now. But I like it.

Few years ago I was working with a certain group but left because what was going on there didn't sit well with me. And everyone thought I was nuts. Then I moved to a different group and the atmosphere and the whole ethos was completely different. Successful year and a relaxing vibe. It was the right decision.

Lots of good 3D modelling opportunities in engineering/product design.

Check out software like Inventor, ProE, SolidWorks etc. Most engineering/architectural firms will snap up people with proficiency in using 3D software.

Keep looking. That job is out there.

I lost my dream job for sleeping with a patient. We loved each other but the company said it was frowned upon. I really love my job as a vet.
