Cork

I have noticed that here in cork, lots of business haven't returned to normal. For example takeaways close at 9 weekdays and 10 on weekends. Some bars are closed earlier and some don't open Monday to Thursday. Is this a nationwide thing.

Somewhere out there

It's everywhere!! There's one chippy where you have to phone in to make your order, you can't just turn up!! Some pubs don't open during the day time, just open in the evening at about 4pm/5pm until closing whatever time that is, it seems earlier than before!! Some pubs don't open until Thursday until Sunday night!! Some pubs provide food where they hadn't before and are striving!! There's one pub about 5 miles away that used to have food and they did brilliantly but COVID put an end to it, it's still open but wouldn't be surprised if they close down as they don't provide any food anymore which is a pity!!

A few shops around here that still close earlier than they did before Covid.

Some shops and off-licenses still have the plastic guard at the counters.

Covid is still around though. I had a dose of it myself last month.

My local chipper closes at 9pm all the time since Covid. Prior to that it was midnight to 1.30am. A lot of pubs haven't reopened since

Cost of gas/electricity, prices of everything has gone up.

People drinking at home more than going to the pub etc

Cost of business, min wage all contributing

Same here, chipper closes at 10pm seven nights a week. None of the others do though.

Pubs were cutting back their hours long before Covid, the chippers too as a result.

Probably just as well the hotels stopped the residents bar as back in the day you'd be over the limit driving home, not worth taking the risk anymore!

"Pubs were cutting back their hours long before Covid, the chippers too as a result."

Yeah, rural, small village chippers have been closing up at 9 or 10pm for years, the hours after that weren't profitable since the last recession due to fall in trade in the local pubs, they were also fed up with dealing with pissed customers.

The Town

I work in a hotel in Dublin City Centre on the Northside.

We have a famous pub and it's only open Friday to Sunday.

Don't get the traffic during the week and the costs to have it open for a few customers isn't worth it.

COVID gave business time to re asses and examine trading and profitable houts and many adjusted to gibe thme selves and staff better wotk life balancr instead of opening everyhour many of which were loss making hours . Good to see.

I supplied the licensed trade for years up to 2013.

Even back then I had to change various delivery routes and schedules because many of the pubs didn't open on Monday or Tuesday and some didn't open until the evening time.

I had a bunch of keys that opened about 35 different pubs all over NI because there was never anyone there on certain days.

No idea about takeaways as I'm not in them late at night but I've seen local adverts for places doing deliveries up to 4am.

Yes the chain pizza places are cleaning up, to be fair to them. They are putting in the effort and getting the reward.

somewhere

I come home from work late at night

Since covid most takeaways are closed after 10.00pm so I'd be lucky to get something once every few weeks if I drive home a different way

It's a pity because the local chipper used to give me free food ....a lot of pizzas and chips that I'd deliver to my neighbours as they would be sitting up late watching telly
