"A funny discussion over the weekend. Do you use card or cash more on a night out? Also if using cash, do u carry a wallet with a certain amount of cash in it? " cash is king, no one wants card payments only the government

I'm abroad at the minute and have the option to charge everything to my room but I'm paying in cash for everything.
At home I'll pay for fuel etc by card but so many local businesses either won't accept cards at all or have signs up asking customers to use cash and that's what I do in all of those. |

Massive increase in the number of businesses not accepting cards now around me due to the vast increase in card charges they have to pay.
Some have a minimum card amount of £5 but a few customers have told me they will either be raising that to £10 or getting rid of the card machines very soon. |

Based in Kerry, work in Cork. |
I've gone nearly completely cashless. Since my bank enabled phone payments, I use my phone for everything.
I actually lost my bank card a few months ago and haven't bothered looking for it. |

I take a certain amount out of the ATM on Thursdays when I get paid and it usually does me for the week.
If I had a rare night out I'd take an extra few bob out of the ATM.
I don't have a wallet. Everything just in the pockets. |

"Card for pretty much everything except for drinking!
Nothing says "you've probably had enough" like pulling out that last fiver and a bunch of shrapnel!"
Haha there's truth in that alright. Shrapnel. I haven't heard that in an age. |

I’ve a smart watch so that’s what I use to pay for everything. Never have cash (except when kids need it for school), never have a wallet, and rarely even carry a phone (as watch takes calls and texts also).
If cash is the only payment method I go without. I love it |

So bad for using my phone to pay that I dont even carry my cards anymore so there has been occasions where I needed cash and didn't even have my card to withdraw from the ATM 🙈🙈 need to get better at at least having some cash. |

Card the vast majority of the time
And no I'm not falling for the "ooh pay cash if you can, our costs blah blah" - you're looking to dodge paying tax as much as possible, and you need to change card machine provider if your charges are as massively high as you're saying.
I realise that'll possibly set a lot of people off |

I'm self employed. The banks even charge me for standing on a main busy street to lodge money. When you add up bank charges for the year its a lot. |

I was in a pub earlier and asked for a pint. The barman saw me opening my phone and straight away said ..."cash only now, is that OK ?
I almost fell over with the shock. I could do nothing only walk out the door and into the next place where they happily took my tap |

"I use both. We need to keep cash in circulation. Small businesses need a cash intake to keep their costs down. "
This is spot on. Not enough people realise that if if goes out of use then places will be able to justify not taking cash.
Now for a night out I think if you're disciplined taking out cash prior to going out is a sensible way to control spend! |

If you look up the digital euro that was approved last year you would use cash alot more. I mostly tap in Tesco, Dunnes etc but always take cash out once a week. It's vital to maintain cash transactions in this country, there's an older generation that rely on it also |

Mainly card/phone but I see the importance of keeping cash as a payment method. Businesses ideally need to accept both, yes I know there’s a cost to accepting card, but lodging cash also costs money and more importantly time. If you prefer cash cause you want to dodge tax, then you can politely FRO. |

Nooo, cash in pockets is a bad idea. Especially when combined with a washing machine. Trust me... I know. |
