Just had a discussion with this couple. .and I was open and polite..tried to point out that vast majority of people on this island refer to it as derry..this is a fact..from what I can gather they are completely oblivious to the history of the city. .and referred me to Google. .really? ?..I dont do rudeness ..to those who made rude remarks..I have nothing to say to you..if you post on a site in ireland that you are visiting londonderry..you have to be prepared to have that challenged.....out

i wrote 2 replies and decided not to post in case I was deemed a bigot. I'm not political I'm truly not. But the fact of the matter is some people see Londonderry as Derry. On some maps it's Derry. Without getting into history lessons it was Derry long before the London part come about. For the record in my eyes I'd ppl see it as Londonderry that's their choice. But you have to see orders views on the matter

...this is pathetic, only the people on this island can get offended by a name of a city, it's Derry, or Londonderry, I was going to say 'who cares' but looks like there's already a wee bite from the small minded people...call it what you want!

Anyways, enjoy your stay in Ireland/Northern Ireland, I doubt you'll get any decent weather

Such horseshit.

If someone wants to call it derry, let them

If someone wants to call it londonderry, let them.

If you want tourists to come to your city, be a damm sight nicer to them.

When you go to Brugge you dont have the locals moaning about it being called 'bruges'.

A helpful person would mail the OP and politely warn them that the locals might not like the london prefix being used, a bawbag starts sneering at them online.

I reckon they'll have cancelled judging the tone of some of the hysteria on here. Don't blame them if they do tbh. Pathetic.
