Waterford

Got an idea in my head about an hour ago and just booked a few days in Prague in the last few minutes. Have a bit of time off work in November so decided I should get away for a nice city break.

Anyone here been? Any recommendations for a History enthusiast?

Not looking for swinging related recommendations, just some interesting things to see and do.

I'll do the tourist research stuff tomorrow as I'm going to bed in a few minutes but just said I'd see if I can get some first hand experiences.

Hope to wake up to loads of recommendations from ye here in the morning .

Night folks!!

If you like Mozart then the Tyl theatre (in town) is worth every penny if you can get a ticket. Bertramka museum is a nice way to spend a couple of hours. Buses run out to there from town.

There's a huge amount to do there, historically one of most interesting cities.

Some amazing art work in churches and galleries and the child of Prague is there if that side history interest you.

The Jewish synagogue and cemetery is worth going to.

Look out for the 27 crosses on the old town square. You'll see them better from above. That's a bit of their history worth looking into.

The sex museum is a bit of craic too. I was there for a week and it wasn't enough. It's a beautiful city steeped in amazing history. Enjoy.

I was in Prague a few years back, it was on a stags so mostly not the type of sights that you will be looking for, but I did slip away and take some of the culture in that the guys above have called out.

It's a beautiful city I'd love to head back, great choice.

lol I probably am. I'd go back just for the museum . I had a right laugh watching porn in the cinema showing how it made in the 1920s silent movies was the most funny music ever I'm laughing now over it .

in da sticks, london, amsterdam, madrid

Maybe wrong time of the year but the Karlsbridge leading to the Hracin (The citadel residing on top of the city) is a good place to hang out and make acquaintances -at least in Summer. Don't know whether the pub still exist but you can look it up. It's called U'Flecku. They serve a delicious Czech porter that gets you ratarsed in no time. Take also time to visit the Wenzel place with its beautiful Glockenspiel. At each full hour the apostles parade out an into this beautiful clock tower, a must see spectacle when in Prague.

Finally for your return to Ireland, Bohemion led crystal is famous and still mainly hand made, unlike Waterford crystal, where lots of the work has been automated. (75% of the work process so I learned recently). For reasonable money you will find a beautiful Bohemian dust catcher to spoil friends or family.

Enjoy your trip

And Czech women are amazing. Get some pain relive cream for neck, you will need it to turn on every single woman passing you. With huge passion too. Fact that Czech porn have its own category in pornhub or other sits is talking by it self.

Look closely in the old town. Most of the bars have a basement section populated by locals. When I was there I was with a local so not sure you will be hugely welcomed in the basement on your own but worth a try. Great atmosphere and cheaper beer. Though Czech beer is cheap and the best in the world anyway

Hotel josef is possibly the classiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Want an example how? The first morning I came down to breakfast there was a table with newspapers from different countries. I picked up the guardian as it was in English.

The next morning when I was brought up my table the guardian was already on it for me. Now that is class!

Dunboyne & Dublin

If you were there this weekend you could go to the Cure gig tomorrow night!

Check what bands are playing when you are there and maybe catch a gig.

Capone's has an interesting reputation also. Google it

Middlesbrough

Amazing city, but make sure you head down to Vysehrad, Prague's original castle. It is a 40 minute walk from the centre along the river and is something most tourists miss. Very popular with locals weekends, amazing views of the city from the walls and home to the original statues from the Charles Bridge.

On your way back down from the castle you pass Ukroka, stunning restaurant. Daytimes does a special for a few pounds and is full of locals. Evenings also very reasonable, great vibe and outstanding food.

Take in a guided tour bus trip to kutna hora, the bone church, about 65km outside Prague, eerie but really worth a visit.

Really is unique and worth a visit, unassuming church with a bizarre crypt. St Barbaras cathedral in the main town is also worth seeing.
