Alternative to SKY as my bills are high

In as simple terms as possible can anyone recommend a way to have sky tv without necessarily paying crazy prices. My sky is rising and rising in terms of price.Yes I like Sky but the bills are mad and it's hard to justify the cost of them given the time I actually spend watching it.I have sports and movies And the HD but my bills are close to €100 per month.I do record alot of programmes as I never know what time I will be watching so the record function is important to me.I've heard about dodgy boxes or the likes but I've no idea how I go about it or what is required to get it..or indeed how good the reception is or if I can record etc.Bare in mind I don't have great IT knowledge so I will need explaining!

Some will say suck it up and pay but I'm hoping someone may have some suggestions. Thanks

Get a firestick and get some one to install kodi. All it costs is the price if the firestick and the cost of someone installing kodi.

Get freeview with a recordable box. You pay a little upfront for the gear but the only bills you'll have after that will be for the electricity you use, no ongoing rental costs. The only sky channel on Freeview is sky news I believe but if you can do without that then look into it. Get saorview on top of that if you want the Irish channels too.

Sky have clamped down on dodgy boxes using the satellite dishes and as a result, you can no longer use these to get subscription channels.

You can however get an android box, or smart tv's come with the app, and buy a subscription for a year (anywhere between 60 - 150 euro for the year) and this will give you all the sky channels, in HD, however, it does not have a record function.

The above streams the channels to your box / tv. This means that your broadband must be capable of handling that speed of download. Normally about 8mb download would be enough.

The android boxes can be loaded with movie apps like kodi etc mentioned above

Hope that helps op!

Ive got an android box and use kodi. A loads of series and movies. Have found anything I wanted to watch on it. The box itself was 120 off eBay. The only thing I'd say is kodi is always updating it's app and then some links won't work. For me I just use YouTube to find out how to install the newest kodi.

If you want to stay with sky you should ring them and threaten to leave and they will give you a discount to keep you. Ask for their loyalty department and keep asking for more when they offer you a reduction. You are entitled to a reduction as a loyal customer

I'm currently getting 46.50 in discounts each month. I negotiate regularly with them and there are always offers they will give to loyal customers

I'm with them 10 years....they ain't offering much discounts to me at all.Ive been pleasant all the way through.id a fella from sky today try to convince me that the dodgy boxes are from drug dealers and organised crime and that I'd be supporting the drug trade by doing that.I wonder where they get their staff from because that's rather terrible to be hearing from a so called trained member of staff who is meant to reward loyalty.

Iptv is the way to go folks...any smart tv...android box...firestick...will work...u wont be sble to record on these but if u have a tv box like an f5s or a zgemma box that you used gor the card sharing before sky blocked it all..

Iptv can be installed via certain apps that certain ppl have it all sorted for running off..what your paying a month gor sky tv could be for the yr on iptv..works a treat..you get all sky channels plus more..look into that

I asked for a discount and got nowhere. I signed up to eir and when I rang to cancel they offered big discounts then.

Get an android box. Download showbox for every movie ever and get every station steamed. Picture isn't perfect but you can download movies and use the 1200 a year you save on a holiday

When you cancelled what type discounts did they give and was it just when cancelling or did they come back to you with an offer a few days after giving notice to cancel?

Get a firestick and put Kodi on it. The free add ons are fine for tv shows and movies but for live sport there are various subscriptions that are very cheap which works great. Some also give you the sky channels aswell.
