the big smoke

As I sit and watch my little man run around playing in his own little world, oblivious of other kids around him, I listen to the Beatles “blackbird” and think to myself. I don’t care what life brings you, as long as your happy little man.

I came across this song in the movie I am Sam. Never knew till this morning it was a Beatles song.

What songs have true deep meaning to you and why?

Venga Bus by the Venga Boys. Such deep and meaningful lyrics about not letting your life stall in 1 spot, you get on the bus, move forward and stay positive.

That’s it. Forever positive. On days when the little fella can’t express emotions because he’s nonverbal and lashes out, using aggression as a form of communication I still hold a hope he’ll be happy in life. As blackbird says “take these broken wings and learn to fly”.

It’s a good tune. Meaningful.

Would it lower the tone and general sentiment of the thread if I suggested two funny songs? Although just because they are funny (and quite blue), doesn't say they don't carry some meaning and we can't identify with them..

The songs in question are two from Kevin Bloody Wilson:

(1) Do you f**k on first dates?

(2) Dick'taphone (Telephone Operator song)

If you've never heard of Kevin Bloody Wilson (Australian comedian who used to tour Ireland a lot), this will mean nothing to you

I was going to write a joke answer, but Ben Howards - keep your head up has actually helped me through a lot and is a very honest relatable song

cavan town

"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind,

have no fear of atomic energy cos none of them can stop the time.

Oh how long shall they kill our prophets, while we stand aside and look.

Some say it's just a part of it we've got to fulfil the book"

-------------------------------

To many songs to name, but this one stands out for me. For me a good song is all about the lyrics.
