Hi all, I am trying to lose a belly, before lockdown I was at the gym doing weights and swimming everyday, and since I have been running and cycling a lot.
Sadly this wok under my T-shirt won’t disappear So I’m now looking at meal replacement shakes, high in protein as I still plan to exercise. Planning two shakes and then a meal in the evening.
Has anyone else used them? Any preferences or advice? Thanks |

I use Huel shakes. More because of the ease of meal prep. They are fairly filling, decent for you and quick. I tend to have breakfast, a shake and dinner and that keeps me in check |

If you are finding you aint losing any weight you are more than likely having too many calories. Tip would be make a diary of what you are eating over a couple of days then work out the calories.
In general, men require 2500 calories so aim for less than that and depending on age/body/will power aim for between that and 1800 calories. Do not go below your Basal metabolic rate.
You'll probably find you are having too many calories, so next tip would be eat small every 2 hours instead of 3 meals a day.
Sorry for it being long. |

Thanks. I don’t think I eat badly, although I do like a beer, it’s not every day, I will start to keep a diary, I have used Lifesum in the past so will try that again, |

Ah yes the Lifesum app. I tried that, i find the problem with those apps are that they all use American details for food and drink.
I dont drink, but a good place to start would be replace beer with water, i did the same, replaced fizzy drinks with water. It has a 2 fold effect, you are consuming zero additional calories and at time the body mistakes thirst for hunger. |

Haha unfortunately the saying "You cant outrun a bad diet" is true. The split of diet/exercise is about 70/30. You could lose weight easier by just by eating right, but not by exercise alone. |

Carbs aint the problem. Its the calories. Carbs and protein give 4 calories worth of energy per gram (carbs are slightly more but the difference is negliable). Since this is about losing weight, the focus should be on lowering how many calories are consumed (caloric deficit) |

I would recommend intermittent fasting, it’s excellent for fat loss, especially belly fat.
It has a lot of health benefits too.
People say they wouldn’t manage it, I said that too, bit it’s pretty easy once you’re in the habit.
Don’t eat more small meals, that has the opposite effect
It’s also better to eat ‘clean’ rather than using shakes, it’s much healthier |

I’ve just finished my sport science and nutrition course at school and what you’re thinking of doing is BAD. Loosing weight takes a long time even years but replacing your food with shakes no matter if theyre protein or calorie shakes will not do anything but harm you in the long run. If you’re serious about changing your diet then you should try out fasting with a calorie deficiency while excercising (10,000 steps a day). Your meals should be heavy in protein and carbs. Try and change your foods. With all this together you’ll lose weight very fast. For the fasting there’s lots of apps that can help you my friend remember that your gut controls 90% of your hormones so treat it well |

Just eat less, whether it be fasting, keto or any other method, they all create a calorie deficit just in a different way.
You can't specifically target belly fat either
Meal replacement shakes are in general garbage

"The best way is to be in a calorie deficit for a long time, it could be for 3 or 4 months, there are no shortcuts." The time of lenght depends how lean you want to be, from beach lean to contest ready there.

You say that but I've done keto for 3 weeks and lost all my belly fat with under 50 carbs a day and 8 pounds lost, so I then go low calorie per day to try and maintain and so far I've put 1 pound a week back on at a measly 1500 calories, and I run too, so low calorie doesn't always work for everyone. |

" That is good, but it is not sustainable to be on a keto for too long and it seems that your maintenance calories have changed so now those 1500 is a new baseline to either eat more or less from. |

But 1500 calories for a male who runs and excercises 3/4 times a week is nothing as its a 1000 calories a day less than recommended intake, but I'm still putting a pound a week on. I know Keto isn't sustainable but I'll be back on it again soon enough at this rate. |

I have my summer diet at 2500 calories with a refeed day on the weekend with an extra 300kcal on that day.

I (Luke) went to see a nutritionist and got some face-to-face advice. She looked at what I was eating; told me what was good and bad; gave me principles and a meal plan. It was really successful and I went down a few belt notches. I highly recommend doing that. |
