Wonder if there are any legal types out there?

I have what I thought was a relatively straight forward question that needs answering but my learned friend google is as clear as mud...

I need a properly informed answer not simply I think this is the case, so if any forumites (or lurkers) are legally trained then please pm me.

(It's on a point of immigration law)

Otherwise Citizens Advice is a better friend than Google...

Not UK immigration...
