Yes still a thing

till I got the bright idear off draging the mattress off the bed and planking it in the living room floor

Thin walls and flat with next door bed room wall on my bed room wall means you hear everything so tend to keep it to the living room so it muffles the sound a bit

It's scientifically proven that you can't get carpet burn from that type of material, hence the colloquial term "shag pile"
