Housecoat is quite common in Scotland but I always say dressing gown.

Although I bought a zip front 'Dressing gown' for my daughter at crimbo and we refer to it as a housecoat... I think its because she looks like her nana in it

My wife has a big fluffy pink 'dressing gown', and two thinner, lighter versions which she calls "housecoats" - and gets annoyed when I refer to the latter as "day nighties"...
