Farm girl here.
Done it many a time over the decades. Straw/hay bales rough as fuck and hard. Loose straw bit more comfortable, but end up with it stuck in every orifice.
Both methods always bring knees scratched to fuck with it embedded into your skin. Obviously spend days brushing it out of your hair too.
Loose meadow hay is the preferred choice if needs must, but I'm too old for that shit now. I like my creature comforts.
