I don't wave back, I give a subtle nod. Also try to look past them as you do it, just incase, so it looks like you were not doing it to them.

The story of my life, I'm ridiculously short-sighted. My common pessimist version of that is actually somebody waving to me but I am not replying because I think is waving to somebody else. X
