I'm bored tonight, and love a but of history, so what would be your choice for the most interesting period of history?

Transsexual Transylvania

There are several, but I'm going to go with the post Roman Europe of the last half of the first millenniumm - the early Middle Ages and the Byzantine world are fascinating.

I studied the late eighteenth century in my PhD and that was pretty cool.

But my research masters was on the period roughly from 1980-2018 and that was probably my favorite.

Can’t beat the Nazis for a real GoT theme! The inner circle and its workings. The dealings before they came to power, their height and inadvertent loss.

And interesting how Europe almost fell under their spell!

My other favourite choice (I know, I know) is the ancient world of the eastern Mediterranean. The ancient civilisations of Egypt, the Levant and Asia Minor are fascinating. My late wife had a degree in Biblical Archaeology, and it was so interesting.

Watch "The Last Kingdom" on Netflix if you haven't already seen it. It's got alot about the above.

"Barbarians" is another good one it's show's how the Romans subdued the Saxons in What was known as Germania then.

I've always been fascinated by the eighteenth century as it saw the beginnings of what we think of as modern ways of thinking and being, as well as plenty of great art and music which we can still see and hear.

Last kingdom books by Bernard Cornwell are superb but at times he has guessed based on sources.

I think period before 900 is super vague and there’s much myth from Romans leaving the island to about 800. Frustrating trying to find anything that is useful as there isn’t the level of archeology and knowledge

St Leonards

I'd go with Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire.

Just no way that should ever have happened in one lifetime from such nondescript beginnings.

But happen it did. And it was gigantinormous!

Intellectually, culturally, and, if you resisted, savagely.
