That’s a cheerful topic for a Sunday!

Only had this situation once in my life, and it was a long time ago, when I was young and stupid. I ghosted her, and have always regretted how I handled it.

It’s probably kinder in the long-term to pump the brakes on the relationship before it gets to that point. If you aren’t in a position to reciprocate on those feelings, it’s better to be honest about it and not promise them something you can’t deliver on.

I mean, surely the context is after they say I love you.

I do love me.

It's sincere

I've never not been able to say it back with someone I love/have loved (as in workplace etc. Fuck others. Say it to the person you love).

If you mean someone says it to you and you don't love them, I'll usually say "Well, you have good taste" as some form of irony to my cost.

Softer than saying "Well I don't love you", and they usually work out you're not at that place with them and gives them space to think about their next move.
