I NEED YOUR HELP!! I am on my own this Christmas and I would love to use my time to to support people who are in need.. the problem is, all the volunteer roles seem to be long term.
Is anyone aware of any organisations (Norfolk or Nationwide) that would be able to use my help and support on Christmas Day. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you all x |

The places that provide free food for people on low income/homeless run all year round so they will have had their staffing rotas for weeks.
There will probably be something for you to do in the run up to Christmas. Check your local authority page as a lot do gift drops and need people to help collect and deliver gifts for parents to give their children. In terms of face to face contact on Christmas Day, they will not be short of offers but the work leading up to it they could always use help |

"I think you might have left it a little late. I know the homeless charities in this area are always short of volunteers at Christmas but I think you'd need to get DBS checked etc "
Thank you for your help. I have sent off a bazillion emails and messages this morning, hopefully something sticks! |

"Enquire at local Churches. A lot of them hold a number of charitable events/get togethers for Christmas day or thereabouts "

You could try local churches and they often have projects over Christmas, but they usually well staffed and quite a lot of red tape, CRB etc if engaging with vulnerable adults or children.
Why not do something yourself in your own community / street and publish it on Next Door & Facebook Local , you could invite others that are alone to come and have Christmas dinner with you or something? |

Shelter although perhaps fully booked now. I worked for them over Christmas and you could choose days from 1 upwards over the Christmas period. They take in the homeless and provide food, clothing, a bed, medical help, games/entertainment etc |

Hi OP,
My husband and I tried to arrange to do this a few years ago and failed. I am so glad that you have had good luck. Maybe we will try again next year and take the tips you have been given here.
Best of luck

Thanks to this post I contacted my local church (hadn't thought of them as not very religious) and will be helping out at a meal they are doing for those on their own. |

If you have left it too late and can't find something organised, you could always put a post on FB and see if there's anyone local who will be alone on Christmas Day and would welcome some company. |
