Somewhere In The Ether…

Ey up and ow do good folks 👍🏻

A quickie question: How spicy can you handle it?

…Food I mean.

Do you like hot sauces etc or else do you avoid them like the plague?

You may answer with the recognised chilli scale if you so wish….1-5

About a three, if we talking Indian takeaway then a mild madras would be the limit.

I like spice for flavor not for fire. Keep it tasty

I like spicy Jamaican food.

As someone else said spice for flavour is better than numbing your taste buds with heat.

Yes. A good ital curry or back when I used to eat meat Jerk chicken also add a scotch bonnet to my rice and peas, like you said, for flavour.

I love spice, will eat almost anything..not saying that my eyes aren't watering for some of the hotter stuff though

Some of the hottest stuff I've eaten has been in Thailand when I've asked for it to be 'Thai spicy' 🔥

Yes. That firefight is still the best scene.

3-4 depending how I'm feeling. Spices are definitely more for flavour than heat as has been said. Hot sauces that just destroy your taste buds (and your guts) I don't see the point.

All over

I am mot into very hot stuff. Like to enjoy the glavout of the dish, not burn my pallete with chilli or whatever it is. All in moderation.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I once ate the infamous Carolina Reaper chilli….

Christ on stilts! - That was obscenely hot 😵‍💫

The only way it could be feasibly utilised in a cookery setting would be in microscopic amounts.

I generally like a bit of heat now and then though 😃

A den in the Glen

Had a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce. One drop used to be able to change a whole pan of curry.

We used it as a man test and take a drop on our finger and eat it. I have never seen anyone not react. Lethal. We must have all been boys.

Quite a few people on fab find Naga hot. I’ve seen loads of threads on it

I can eat 4-5, but my nose runs and I regret it later when my arse joins in.

So I tend to stick to 2-3. Madras/Jalfresi is my safe limit.

I'm a bit tame I'm afraid when it comes to hot and spicy good. I prefer a curry for example, creamy and mild.

I'm a bit of a chilli head.

I can handle most scorchingly hot food and even get endorphin rushes from it.

But...a lot of the processed stuff these days uses "chilli extract" which is basically chemically separated capsaicin. I'm good with anything that contains fresh chillies as an ingredient including nagas, carolina reapers and moruga scorpions.

However, I recently discovered a ramen pot I was recommended - Buldak 2X Hot Spicy Chicken Flavour - is borderline inedible even for the likes of me. The "regular" Buldak Hot Spicy Chicken Flavour is a wonder of a thing but the 2X version...never again. I was too scared to take a shit for 24 hours after eating it.

If it tingles the lips and gets the nose running then it's hot enough for me, if I'm heading for the milk then I've over done it.
