Gene Hackman and his wife have both been found deceased in their home.

A sad way to go for such an iconic actor.

couple, us we him her.

The word legend is bandied about a lot mostly unjustified.

However in this case Legend is an apt word, one of my all time favourite actors.

Very sad news especially in such strange circumstances.

RIP.

Absolutely one of the greats. A little mention for his brilliant cameo in Young Frankenstein which I believe was uncredited.

I remember him for his depiction of Gen Sosabowski in a Bridge Too Far … a very accurate portrayal!

Very odd circumstances though!!

I note his wife is 30 years younger than him -wow!

I heard they killed themselves, but before that they decided to kill their dog first.

If that's is the case then fuck em, the selfish fuckers killing an innocent dog for no reason.

His wife was only in her 60’s so I suspect it was some sort of accidental cause of death, like a gas leak or something, rather than anything dodgy.

It's looking likely it was one of two scenarios. Either there was some form of gas-leak which killed Hackman, his wife and the dog, or it was the other, more obvious option.

Hackman had been having money problems for a while, his self-imposed retirement coming on the back of his horrible behaviour during the filming of The Royal Tennenbaums leaving him living on his savings for 20 years. He always had a passionate hatred of giving autographs, rivalled only by Alan Alda and Steve Martin, but last year he was so desperate for money that he actually signed up to an agency which sold autographs. He really was in a desperate financial state.

With ill-health and huge money worries, it might have been a variation on suicide, be it willingly or not for his wife.

At this point, it's pure speculation. The first film I ever saw at the cinema was Superman: The Movie, and Hackman really left an impression on the 5-year old me, so I'm trying not to sensationalise a really awful situation.

It's not often that you'd be hoping there WAS a lethal gas-leak.

"One of his very best films is The Conversation which doesn't seem that well known."

With a young Harrison Ford.

And John Cazale, which was one of the 5 films he starred in which were all nominated for best picture Oscar

"One of his very best films is The Conversation which doesn't seem that well known."

Also with Teri Garr, who herself only died just over 2 months ago.

What a very sad story. It seems his wife died of natural causes and Hackman, who had advanced alzheimers, did the same a week later.😥

A very very sad ending indeed, for such a great actor.

It does kinda beg the question …. where were the ‘loving family’ in that 2 week space. I could never have imagined going 2 weeks without speaking to my parents in their later years … or not going 2 weeks without at least speaking to my own kids now.

R 😘
