His performance in Snatch solidified it for me.

He's had an amazing run of good roles that he's smashed out of the park. Playing Combo in the This is England series probably took him to a new level, then playing Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire made him an international name.

He’s a fantastic actor and so versatile. I met him in a gym once, he seemed really down to earth and lovely.

I think he said at the time that playing combo cost him other roles, great films though

He’s quite good in the thousand blows new boxing series

Didn’t like him in the chef thing

Literally watching the last episode of adolescence as I type this. Best British actor of our generation hands down.

A fantastic actor and managed to dodge the whole Ray Winstone stereotypical roles well.

Funny guy too.

I like to watch him act. He has passion and intensity , humour and pathos.

He's always 'the archetypal narky scouse working class bloke' to me though in what ever part he plays. Though he does do a good American accent.

Saw him on a chat show in the past year, might have been Graham Norton and it put me off him a bit ...... he seemed to be a name dropping sycophant - i'd need to see more chat shows to decide

I guess you have not seen 'Doghouse'.

Wikipedia's description is this.

'Doghouse is a 2009 British slapstick comedy horror splatter film. A group of male friends travel to a remote town in England for a 'boys' weekend'. Upon their arrival, they find out that all the women in the town have been transformed into ravenous man-eaters; literally.[3]'

"Even bit parts like Band of Brothers and The Irishman were good "

Definitely agree with everything in this thread, the guy's slowly but surely working his way to legend status.

As for the Irishman, check out the interview he did explaining the ice cream scene with Al Pacino, he does such a great impression of him!!

Shame the guy is a complete penis in real life. He was investigated by the FA this year for aggressively insulting a referee at a non league match and giving it the full 'do you know who I am' treatment. He called the referee a 'fat twat and a fucking teletubby'. Total wanker if you read the reports around the incident.

I read an interview with Thomas Turgoose and he said that his mum died after making This Is England. Stephen Graham and Shane Meadows had offered to step in and look after him if he didn't get on with his dad who he didn't really know at the time.

To be fair referees are total walkers, I've heard a song sung about them and everything
