I'm taking a long drive to the West Country today, all going well so far except for a lukewarm Greegs pasty at 11.

What's your favourite long drive/road trip, or what's the one on your bucket list?

I rode (motorcycle) from London to Basel, stopping only for petrol and a fag (the one paying for the petrol). Was really walking funny by time i got there though and that’s when the flashbacks started..

Any drive up to anywhere in Scotland or around Wales or up/down the East coast or around Europe. In short, I like driving šŸ˜‚

Playlist wise it depends what I'm in the mood for. The Off Menu podcast is a favourite at the minute and music wise I hit play on Piano Man then see what comes after

Not a particularly long drive but heading from Nottingham to Manchester to see friends I always take the Snake Pass route as it's such nice scenery. Also I like to take any opportunity I can to drive to Lake Windemere as it's so nice up there.

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I drove to Morocco from the UK in my motorhome. France, Spain, Portugal (and a bit more Spain!), then the ferry across to Africa. Great trip! 3 months there and back.

No Greggs pasties of any temperature.

Did U.S. Route 1 from the Canadian boarder in Maine all the way to Key West in Florida about 25 years ago over a two week period. With a couple of friends in a second hand car that broke down regularly and with really only enough money for petrol and sleeping in the car.

Getting lost in the Appalachians whilst on a detour and nearly having a Deliverance moment after we stopped to ask someone for directions. That was a highlight of the trip…..

It's so rare in the UK but fantastic when it happens. Sometimes will take a long journey at night for same reason - empty roads and loud tunes.

I would put me back out when the driver hit a speed bump too hard.

I’m not sure OP. I would sail to Santander or Bilbao. I’ve been to a fair few cities along the coast but not so many in the middle. I have plenty of time so I could zig zag.

I’d spend some time up in the north east though as it look amazing.

Definitely stop a day in Bilbao if you sail there, then just explore the Coast if you have time. Lots of interesting smaller towns and villages, and the area is known for excellent eating. I prefer those to San Sebastian or Santander.

Check out Segovia, just a bit north of Madrid. Great place.

I really love the south of Spain. Great weather, no clothing required on the beaches, stunning Moorish architecture, chilled lifestyle and great food.

"Can you recommend any other cities Gbat?"

Malaga is a great place, Granada too and they’re reasonably close by public transport.

Seville is good, Alicante is great.

For me though, the smaller towns about an hour or so inland from the coast are brilliant. Authentic Spain at its best. But shite public transport links!!!

You’d need a car. Better to arrive with company rather than trying to find someone local to chat too. For that you’d need a city or the coast.

I have good fortune to live in a stunning part of the country. I’m a stones throw from Loch Lomond and Argyle National Park breathtaking scenery on my doorstep.
