I'm taking a long drive to the West Country today, all going well so far except for a lukewarm Greegs pasty at 11.
What's your favourite long drive/road trip, or what's the one on your bucket list? |

I rode (motorcycle) from London to Basel, stopping only for petrol and a fag (the one paying for the petrol). Was really walking funny by time i got there though and thatās when the flashbacks started.. |

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Any drive up to anywhere in Scotland or around Wales or up/down the East coast or around Europe. In short, I like driving š
Playlist wise it depends what I'm in the mood for. The Off Menu podcast is a favourite at the minute and music wise I hit play on Piano Man then see what comes after |

Not a particularly long drive but heading from Nottingham to Manchester to see friends I always take the Snake Pass route as it's such nice scenery. Also I like to take any opportunity I can to drive to Lake Windemere as it's so nice up there. |

I drove to Morocco from the UK in my motorhome. France, Spain, Portugal (and a bit more Spain!), then the ferry across to Africa. Great trip! 3 months there and back.
No Greggs pasties of any temperature.

Did U.S. Route 1 from the Canadian boarder in Maine all the way to Key West in Florida about 25 years ago over a two week period. With a couple of friends in a second hand car that broke down regularly and with really only enough money for petrol and sleeping in the car.
Getting lost in the Appalachians whilst on a detour and nearly having a Deliverance moment after we stopped to ask someone for directions. That was a highlight of the tripā¦.. |

"M1 Christmas Day, all 3 lanes to myself for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles and miles.
Absolutely fucking bliss.
And a few more miles

It's so rare in the UK but fantastic when it happens. Sometimes will take a long journey at night for same reason - empty roads and loud tunes. |

Ā Favourite has been USA. New York to San Fran through northern states (Dakotas etc).
Then back the other way San Fran to New York Southern States - Texas, Nashville etc.
Also driving from Washinton State through Canada and then up through Alaska. Beautiful.
These were great bc driving is so easy there. |

All the cool cats went for the back seat. I guess C&M still thinks she's got it.
I would put me back out when the driver hit a speed bump too hard. |

"I keep thinking about driving from here down to Andalusia, stopping at some of the fabulous Spanish cities on the way.
Which way did you go - through the middle or along the coast ? "
Iām not sure OP. I would sail to Santander or Bilbao. Iāve been to a fair few cities along the coast but not so many in the middle. I have plenty of time so I could zig zag.
Iād spend some time up in the north east though as it look amazing. |

Definitely stop a day in Bilbao if you sail there, then just explore the Coast if you have time. Lots of interesting smaller towns and villages, and the area is known for excellent eating. I prefer those to San Sebastian or Santander. |

Check out Segovia, just a bit north of Madrid. Great place.
I really love the south of Spain. Great weather, no clothing required on the beaches, stunning Moorish architecture, chilled lifestyle and great food.

Malaga is a great place, Granada too and theyāre reasonably close by public transport.
Seville is good, Alicante is great.
For me though, the smaller towns about an hour or so inland from the coast are brilliant. Authentic Spain at its best. But shite public transport links!!!
Youād need a car. Better to arrive with company rather than trying to find someone local to chat too. For that youād need a city or the coast.

Thank you Gbat.
I have been to the cities you mentioned and agree with you about Malaga. I have travelled about by train a fair bit but the car would give me greater freedom to explore the interior of the country. |

Ā I have good fortune to live in a stunning part of the country. Iām a stones throw from Loch Lomond and Argyle National Park breathtaking scenery on my doorstep. Iāve also had the good fortune to cycle round skye and Applecross. If you have never been to this part of the world, I have a strongly advise you to make the effort. |

You could go from Glasgow up the west side of Loch Lomond then up the west coast to Skye. Then over to Inverness and down the A9 through Perthshire. |
