First of all .. let me say…. Not condoning under age drinking in any way!

Right.. I think the limitations on anything illegal has run out for most of us

Saying that…. I assume we all use to drink from 13 ish onwards

I am guessing the drink of choice was different from region to region.. so in your region what were the “to go” drinks?

So for example… east London…never had a cider culture , we were 20/20 and thunderbirds people… (although our group somehow found our way to tequila!)

So .. what was it where you were!

I didn't start drinking/going out until I was at uni.

And then it was blue WKD. One bottle of that and I'd be tipsy. Or smirnoff ice. Or Moet if Tiger Tiger were running their £25 a bottle offer.

"Hooch and 20/20"

Hooch was also an east London thing for a bit, but that was a down from the drinking duo that was “top deck” and “shandy bass”

A flagon of Stonehouse cider and a litre bottle of c. cola with a small bottle of vodka added. Started at 15, I couldn't drink that nowadays 🤣. South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

It was cider for my friends group hanging round the local park near my secondary school in kent. My older brother was more of a 20/20 drinker though with his friends, he hung around in outer London though. Must be a London thing x

Darkest South East Surrey

A light and bitter, I think I was middle aged before my time! If I was feeling adventurous a rum and black or a Pernod.

About 13 yeah sounds about right. North West and then later South West.

Park

Strong cider, MD 20/20. If you had to run and ditch it then it wasn't a big loss.

Parties:

More mixers or straight spirits, but also as above.

Pub and clubs from about 16:

Lager usually Stella or bottles - Bud was probably the most prevalent. I was never big on the lager to be honest.

From about 18:

Wine, straight spirit shots - chasers. Vodka Redbull.

By about 21:

Cash in an empty pint glass, Guinness all day. Drambuie snorters, kamikazes, tequila shots. Calimochos when I lived in Spain. I've seen lads get to the point of drinking anything including aftershave. Some real grim Withnail and I type stuff. Those that are still around still drinking the Guinness and tend towards quality whiskey now but are basically high functioning alcoholics.

I stopped drinking at around 25, my health was suffering.

Now I like the occasional good red wine, port or cocktail. Probably about 4-5 drinks a month.

Lager when skint.

Brown ale n orange when just wanting to be mellow.

Anyone ordering brandy n babycham when we were in a group got the evil eye and then put out to grass!

We drank "K" cider. You could actually feel yourself getting drun*er with every sip

MD 20/20 was another, but to be honest we'd drink anything we could lay our hands on, so it was varied to say the least!!

Halcyon days indeed.

Manchester City Centre

I had a fake ID when I was 15 - ordered it from the back of FHM magazine - it was basically a laminated business card with a photo and hologram - but in 1998-9, that was all you needed

I would usually grab the booze on the way to my mates house, after a short bus journey… as his parents let us all drink, provided we stayed in the house / garden and kept out of trouble… most of our parents were cool with it, but some people had to tell fibs

Was generally White Lightning Cider, Hooch, Bacardi Breezers, Smifnoff Ice, Orange Reef etc… and we’d usually grab a vodka for mixers…

WKD wasn’t available yet, but the Iron Brew one is still my fave - I’m part Scottish, so that’s my genetics for ya… the blue one is nice but gives me heart burn

I started at 13 in Cornwall. Cider from the end of a farm track before Food Hygiene was invented. You had to chew the last few mouthfuls. Or Dry Blackthorn by the bottle if we were feeling posh.

Special Brew, Snakebite

From when I turned 16, my dad would buy me a 6-pack of Castle Lager to take to a class party, or a rugby braai. Everyone drank Castle.

And did anyone use to do the mixer bottle … buying a bottle of cola, pouring half out then filling it with whatever spirits was owned by the parents of the house you were in?! It tasted vile.
