I lost 8.5 stone with SW. Went cold turkey on sweet food as I was determined I wasn't going to spend my Syns in a second of pleasure, when I knew it would derail me and send me into a labyrinth of sweet snacking. |

"This SW syn business is a load of nonsense.
How can a banana eaten whole be syn free, yet if chopped or mashed it then has to have a syn count ?
Doesn't make sense
"
I had this argument yesterday. I was told mashing a banana releases it's natural sugars.. so chewing it doesn't?! |

Exactly
I tried slimming world myself a few years ago, couldn't make head nor tail of it,found myself paying the fiver or whatever it was a week just to get weighed.
Finally dropped a couple of stone by calorie counting and walking more. |

Also I used to fill up on speed and protein to save my syns.
I'm on Mounjaro now and in some ways still kinda follow that .
The worst thing about any new eating plan is that you do find yourself thinking about it even more. |

It’s not that mashing releasing sugars (altho lots of people use this as a reason, I know!). It’s that once it’s mashed down you can consume a lot more in a short space of time and not feel as full up or satisfied as you would if you’d eaten it in its natural state and swallowed it “chunky” which would leave you feeling fuller for longer. If you can eat four “whole” bananas one after the other you’d feel pretty full up after those I suspect and for quite a while, but if you mashed up four bananas and slurped them you would probably not feel as full up nor would it satisfy you for very long. Same with juicing an orange, you could drink four oranges worth of juice easily and quickly but halving, peeling, segmenting and eating four would take longer and leave you feeling fuller for longer. If you want to mash a banana and eat it and not count the syns because it stops you having a binge on something really high in syns, then go for it. It will not stop you losing weight. Everything in moderation x
Meringue nests are easy to get hold of and are very sweet and low syn. Also the pink and white wafer squidgy things. Sometimes it’s worth having something “normal” but just a small amount of it, like a Freddo as it satisfies the chocolate craving.
I hope this helps x |

I've never done the SW diet, but I do know people who swear by it and are forever going on about syns. What I was going to say was, I lost 5 stone through a combination of exercise and calorie deficit, and I found it really helpful to have 1 ginger snap with my coffee at around 35 calories, or a pink and white wafer at around 50. If you do a pink wafer instead of a Snickers or Double decker you're saving around 200 calories a time Oh, and don't eat when you're d*unk - an extra meal late at night is never going to be helpful!!!! |

"Last time I did SW I loved the Kvarg white chocolate pots, some berries and a crumbled up hifi bar (or skinny bar)
It's a big bowl that works out at 0.5 syn and one healthy B or
3.5 Syns. "
Ooh that sounds good, thank you |

The 'official' answer is that it's all about the filling power. You're less likely to feel full if you haven't chewed fruit, so may give rise to a tendancy to eat more of it, which in turn will mean you eat more sugar (even though it's naturally arising).
Imagine you eat one banana, it's more likely to make you feel full/satiated than 'drinking' the same banana as a smoothy - which may need 3 or 4 items of fruit to lead to the same feeling.
Really it's designed to lead to mindful eating/nutrition and lead people to think more carefully about what's being consumed.
There's actually a really good SW podcast available about satiaty - worth a listen if you have time 🩷 |

"I used to eat a lot of Bowers/Bowyers sausages. Good chopped tomatoes (mutti) with spices and garlic to cover pretty much everything. I was online slimmer of the week in my first week "
I used to think tinned tomatoes were tinned tomatoes until I tried mutti, now I’m a tinned tomato snob 😂😂 |

its more about the density.......its easier to overeat if its mashed....... you would be more full eating 2 bananas than say 4 in a smoothy so over consuming... but if i only had 1 mashed i thought sod it |
