I'm 9 days post op ACL reconstruction & partial Meniscectomy (female 55yrs)

Are there any ladies here that's had the same surgery of a similar age and if so how long did you abstain from sex?

I still get horny & sort myself out, my partners worried about hurting me or damage. I just wanna have sex in between bouts of being in pain

Carlisle usually

Avoid doggy for a couple of months at least. Just make sure it's well protected and supported in positions that don't put stress on it 💜

There's usually advice on any discharge notes/after care leaflets.

I'm sure it was only like 2/4 weeks. You just obviously have to be really careful!

Nope, nothing about sex in my discharge notes. I saw my physio for the first time this week, asking all about work/hobbies & had never heard of my job & didn't understand it he was foreign

If you've had an out patient appointment before the operation there will be a number you can call the clinic on, which might be a way to get an answer. Alternatively NHS 111 might be able to help or even your GP.

Try spooning with pillow between your knees and go slow , if it hurts stop.

Pillow is to stop the brace / boot hurting the other knee.

I'm having my stitches out on Monday so I will have a chat with the nurse

111 is a total waste of time for any enquiry and won't be able to answer questions about sex.

They have a generic crib sheet of questions & usually say a GP will get back to you in 48hrs. Then you won't get a call. They wanted my partner to wait 72hrs to attend GP, when he had a raging infection in a leg tattoo. I made him go to A&E for emergency antibiotics as 111 were useless. Had he not gone he would have ended up on an IV

I had ACL & meniscus surgery 2 years ago, and I'm now 50.

I waited 3 weeks before we had sex. The nerve in my lower leg had to be moved for the surgery and has been slightly damaged, so this caused incredible pain. Once I was able to move my leg far enough out of the way we had sex.

Good luck with the recovery, make sure you do your rehabilitation exercises! I still do mine.

Thanks, I def will use a support pillow, spoon, avoid doggy (be a while before I can even bend knee that far) and def no going on top for same reason. I hope other than the nerve that you're glad you had it done & it's improved stability

Yes, I'm very pleased that I had it done and ran a marathon last month. My first event since surgery.

Best of luck, it's not an easy recovery journey but it does improve.

You had a partial meniscectomy and are in a locked brace? That's odd as that's usually for a meniscal repair 🤔

ACL recons don't require a fixed / hinge brace.

It's what my surgeon has put me in & many of the ACL Forums are all in braces. Do you happen to work in this field?

I had ACL, PCL reconstruction and MCL repair, over 10 years ago…..was very sore for a while but now feels great, as for sex life, I was with my Ex at that time so wasn’t a bother of getting it too early, I do think recovery is all about pushing yourself to get some movement back in your knee! Good luck with your recovery

Replying again as I forgot to quote

It's common apparently to be put in a brace to protect the graft for the ACL, it was harvested from one of My own hamstrings. Everyone I've chatted with on an ACL forum is also in a brace. I was hoping for more replies from ladies in regards my sex question.

Cheers
