Indeed, and it makes them last for longer.
One of the local bakery does them in single slices, so that I don't have to buy a whole cake at a time.
A cake is about 4 portions for me!  |

My favourite cut of pork is the belly.
One of my favourite dish is sort of a sweet and sour slow cook belly pork chunks, and the juice/sauce is really thick and gooey, full of fat and gelatin from the skin, yum yum!!!  |

I think Lardy cake is a southern thing, My hubby is from London and bought me my 1st lardy cake there. I am from manchester and have never seen it here. Don't let the name put you off its actually very nice and only slightly greasy or maybe that is just because you know its it there lol |

Haven`t had one for yeeeears the bakery that used to do them near me has long been swept away into another housing development and I don`t know of another "proper" bakery that does them near hear  |

Haven't had one in ages either, but they're sooo good!
My dad used to bring them back on the weekend, wouldn't last long. Think waitrose used to good ones...
This is on my to do list now, Nino must have lardy cake soon!  |

Well, i tried - couldn't get the dough right so after fighting with it for ages chucked it in the bin and just made a common or garden fruit cake! I'll have another go when I've got time as they take flippin hours! Z |

At least you tried Zoe, I gave up trying to make scones years ago cos mine wont rise so when I try again I throw fruit in them and call then rock cakes the kids actually think thats what I make
Now fairy cakes and sponges well I imagine they taste quite good but havent had any in years cos the minute the kids and hubby smell Im baking I can forget tasting any hubby has decided he is the official taster and woe betide anyone who thinks their fingers are faster than his

Thanks both of you - i didn't leave myself enough time so rushed the first bit! Fruit cake was ok but will try the lardy cake on monday as i'm having a day off work! Z |
