Local News

I love local news. You see stories that whilst they aren't as important as the international stuff are a bit more intriguing. Take the headline – Physio bit client whilst growling – my first thought was it pays to do more research before meeting a stranger when the moon is full. Keep to the road and off the physio's bench. The lass only went in because she had a poorly shoulder and so it probably came as quite a surprise to her. The hearing continues, but hopefully not until the moon is full again.

Another good one is the gaffer of an ambulance service on £232,000 a year who has racked up £30,000 worth of expenses. A lot of this is staying in hotels, taxi and train fares, but odds bodkins, I couldn't rack up that much in expenses if you paid me to. I'm wondering whether it is some kind of take on Brewster's Millions. He has to spend all of the NHS Trust's money before the end of the financial year or they get capped.

One story that caught my eye was a thief who specialised in Church collection boxes being convicted on evidence in his own diary. This contained lists of his expenditure on food and fuel, if the church was open and so on I could understand him keeping a list of expenses if he worked for the NHS as a gaffer, but it seems odd for a thief to do it. I'm not convinced it counts as tax deductible. However, the real surprise is that he managed to nick £37,000 from 3 church collection boxes. I never realised the church was so wealthy. I don't think the CofE will be fitting through the eyes of any needles soon.
