Having a late night chit chat with a close friend he was telling me that we've never been as close to a World War as we are now, since World War 2 started. He truly believes that it's highly likely World War will break out in the next couple of years anf our situation will completely change as we know it, due to nuclear missiles.
I never really thought it could happen in the near future, but he really seems to think it's going to be soon.
Do you believe that the way we live could drastically change in the next few years due to ww3? |

"Guess he missed the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 then...fingers were literally on the buttons and I'm sure there's been plenty of occasions since then."
The parents of a friend were so convince that the Cuban crisis would end the would, they had Christmas early that year - he and his siblings were made to give back their presents when it didn't happen. |

Well as the present government has decimated our armed forces,to a point that they can no longer defend our country. We have absolutely nothing to worry about.
WE HAVE TRIDENT and will simply push the button and kiss our arses goodbye. |

I very much doubt it, is my honest answer for a few reasons!
1 russia and the us have very good protocols for avoiding nuclear war
2 China and the US are more tied now than ever but through trade and finance, so probably not there either!
3 France has few nuclear enemies as does the UK
India and Pakistan is a possibility and north Korea maybe lesser so (there real enemies the US are far from their range).
Having said that there remains a distinct possibility of serious conflict throughout the world due to
..
Resources, never in human history have they been as scarce as now |

Apart from religious violence, we're actually in one of the most peaceful periods in human history. Less people die from open war than ever. People love scaremongering and sensationalising current events. |

"In a nutshell yes. The humanitarian crisis that's happening in the middle east, putin, North korea.
Its not looking good. "
Did you know that North Korea recently deployed 50 of its 70 submarine fleet . . A threat to USA & Chinese shipping ?
Russia has troops and troop ships deployed in the middle east ready to put boots in the sand of Syria ?
Obama may not be as gung ho as Bush but that wouldn't stop accidental friendly fire and a little spat in someone else's backyard !
And Putin . . An ex KGB thug with small man syndrome and something to prove Hes already established a military airbase in Iran and the Chinese are flying missions with them
A bit of a volatile tinder box
The good thing is I can't imagine them destroying their own countries ! The middle east might just glow for a few years ! |

The only way a '3rd world war' could break out is if Russia hit the NATO tripwire.
Russia's not gonna do that. Just because we don't like Putin's regime or we disapprove of his foreign policy, doesn't mean that his government is irrational. Quite the reverse.
I defy any of you to find me a proper 'cause' for a 3rd world war.
The outlook for thermo-nuclear annihilation's looking better than it has for decades |

No
Future "wars" will be constant but small scale
The face of war has changed due to the main players ability to annihilate each other at the touch of a button
Wars nowadays are relatively small scale and local'ish |

I don't think there will be a world war like the last time, but there will be small scale wars, which could go nuclear, for many years. By the way, as an ex military type, I can say that the tactical nuke option is much better on the whole than the deployment of chemical or biological weapons. |

We need another conflict area now afghan has dried up to keep the defence industries on all sides ticking over. Much easier to sell a weapons platform if it's been proved in a conflict/battle. Especially if your "foe" is a terrorist movement not a country. |
