Yeah, that pretty much is a great metaphor for the empty feeling it leaves me with too - it took me away from work for months because I just couldn't get a single thing done, and I'm glad right now to be in control of it (though of course, one day at a time and all that) |

I used to write a blog when I was going through this ... I got millions of views and comments ... it was very therapeutic and helpful because it proved that I wasn't alone.
When I go through my dark times now I remember the blog and the comments and it doesn't always help immediately but it brings some comfort
I understand your post completely though because it does leave you feeling empty and isolated

Feeling numb and lacking emitiin are clasdic signs.
Every one suffers at some point, but when it's persistent you need professional help not advice from unqualified people.

Ruined my 20s I could'nt even go to my mates weddings and partys due to depression and bad anxity.
Obiously more than just partys ect, but I would allwsys make excuses up.
Life's on the up now though and loving it!

Pm me if you need any advice with genral depression/anxiety...
I'm not a psychiatrist but I have neurological issues that make me predisposed to depression/anxiety...
1) don't do drugs
2) live around a ridgid healthy routine (bed early)
3) talk to the doctor about medication (especially ssri and propanalol)
4) constantly go to the gp untill you receive oficial diagnosis and specialist treatment (takes about 18 months for diagnosis)
....you can overcome these things by reading and learning to control your cognative functions (I cant)

Link in with GP and local services and get qualified clinical advice and support, have a buddy (friend or family) and tell them how you're really feeling, lots of fresh air outside, find your particular coping strategies and be conscious of particular triggers for you -- everybody is different -- check out resources on Mind website, be gentle with yourself and be conscious that feelings are just that, not actuality but your current response to your circumstances and can change, talk to people and if you can't talk..be with people, eat well, sleep well, excerise like walking, mindfulness, talking therapies, find your useful "things", but above all else know you are not alone. You really aren't. And being honest about how down you are with others is liberating for them and you. Be buoyed in the knowledge there is support, others will relate and you are very much worthwhile. Hugs.
Samaritans have a helpline you can call anytime. Please use it if you're in crisis.

This wasn't my experience with my doctors ... they were amazing and dealt with it promptly and professionally with no painful waiting |

" sime times its hard to call them sonetimes you you feel likebyou cant call them ino its stupid but its true iv had there number saved on my phone for 2 years only brought my self to call them 1nce and as for gps... depends if you have a good one no offence but not all are professional in the least sorry to say it but its true i hope OP feels better soon keep ur head up and make sure you dont let the illness win  |

That was not my experience.
I was genralised with anxiety/depression and thrown arround different departments...
^^^I diagnosed myself when I was 18!
Instead I was sent from infirmary, "acident and crisis", CBT and had to constantly wait for appointments and pester them untill I got to see the neurology department (then the process was quicker)
From my first night at the infirmary it took them more than a year to oficially diagnose me.
Even when I was telling them clearly.
They can do anxiety/depression cbt people but if the issue is deeper the services are slow.
I shouldn't be waiting around for months to be treated.
I've been given very good social services like a life coach and volenteer work at the gym/pool
^^^^but I don't get any advice from doctors
My medication/blood tests haven't been reviewed in 18 months.

On and off since hospital (diagnosed with something crappy and chronic) Going through some guidance now a year or so after I was fixed...I don't want meds, a social solution is what I need....with the jist of it being able to develop the ability to live in the here and now rather than the past or future.
Hope you all find your peace with things like this or similar.
