Why are maps always square?
Why are spirit levels straight?

I did challenge a flat earther to explain gravity, when they explained that the Earth was constantly accelerating upwards at a standard rate of 32 feet per second squared well they had me well and truly snookered! |

2 its only slightly curved and so are spirit levels (  )
3 planes are slightly curved to match the earth so when they fly they stay the same distance up in the sky. |

I've seen this argument gaining traction for quite some time now, though I only encountered it about 3 years ago.
I don't get it. The flat earth thing makes no sense. One can observe the curvature of the earth during a flight.
Who stands to gain anything by claiming that the earth is flat? |

The one thing that always debunks the flat earth theory is the flight time from Australia to South America compared to flights to Europe. Look at the Flat Earthers map of the world and the flight time should be much longer! |

Spirit levels are far too short to show the curved earth ya dafty. It would need to measure hundreds of miles long and be lifted way above the earth to show the curvature.

I’ve read of the ice wall. My mates dads brothers girlfriends cousin actually saw the ice wall but was turned around by NASA guards before he got too close.

To argue that our vision is the limiting factor is myopic in the extreme (clever pun intended).

I seem to recall the earth rotates at 33000 miles per hour, approx!
So if an aeroplane takes off it would be able to stand still but travel backwards half way around the globe on 30 mins,
Also planes travelling north to south would miss their destination lol
Impossible?
Apparently gravity takes care of all of this

Flat horizon!!!
Ever seen how big Greenland is on a flat map of the globe?
About the same size as the USA

Neither Norway nor Antarctica are shown correctly either. Any time you project the surface of a sphere onto a flat plane you'll cause distortion in some form. The distortion on most commonly-used map projections increases the further you are from the equator. |

It isn't the flat earth map. It's an aximuthal projection from the North Pole down to a latitude of 60 degrees south. The original design cut off further north, leaving out portions of the southern hemisphere such as Argentina, which wasn't originally going to be a member. The finalised design was extended down to 60 degrees south, so all that is left out is Antarctica. The original design put north America closer to the centre line. The final design put the centre line on the prime meridian and international date line. |

Ok, in order.
Planes are already tavelling at 33000 per hour along with the rest of the Earth before they take off, for it to suddenly take off another force would have to act on it. If you're stood on a bus doing 70 and jump up do you crashed through the back window?
I've saw pictures where the horizon looks flat and curved at various altitudes. Different cameras and lenses will produce different effects.
The map thing depends totally on which map projection used, mercator projection ect. Putting a 3d shape onto a flat surface requires changes.

But this must be speed over the ground not airspeed as this can be affected by wind strength and direction.
Maps suffer from distortion when printing a projection of the globe onto a flat rectangular format.

Airplanes are never the same distance from the surface, only from the sea.

How come it takes 24hrs for the world to spin once but yet you can board a plain and have a good 15hrs in the air, if your traveling towards the spin of the earth then it should take no time at all, if you just hovered would the world spin beneath you and you could just lower back down again at your destination? My brain thinks random thoughts |

This is a fine point; If the earth was indeed round and spinning, I should in theory be able to jump straight in the air and land about two miles away by the time my feet return to the ground; Yep, yet more irrefutable proof right there. Take that round earthers! |

First off the UN map is a render of the asimuthal equidistant projection, and it in itself is flawed just as every map we have of the "atlas" is flawed.
A little fun fact Antarctica is not on that UN map at all.
The accepted theory of flat earth community is that Antarctica as we know it is the massive ring of ice as seen by all antarctic explorers... Who are heavily regulated btw.
The flat earth community tends to have little to do with the flat earth society which was set up as a ridicule medium.
Right the horizon and drop off on a globe... We should see 8" per square mile of curve obviously exponentially increasing as the curve would extend... We don't.
We do however have the atmosphere occluding our vision... Look at a boat going "over the curve" but then zoom in with a camera or telescope.... And the boat pops back up... Even past the supposed curve.
There was recently a couple in America or Canada took some lasers out to a lake while it was frozen... This lake was a few miles across... The laser pointer was LEVEL across the surface of the lake (frozen lake means less spread of the photons for a tighter beam with less spread)
And they recorded it all from both ends... That laser should have been pointing 2-3 foot higher than the observer given curvature of 8" per square mile.

OK here we go... Remember that eclipse in America... The one that made a 70 mile wide shadow that bisected the north American continent in the opposite direction than the sun and moon should actually have cast it? (it went west to East).
Please can someone tell me how an object 1,079 miles across can cast a 70 mile wide shadow?
Please do tell me how this was done... Shadows can never be cast smaller than the object occluding the light without specialist lenses etc even then I dunno if it has ever been done.

That would explain the 70 mile shadow of the eclipse as well as the night and day cycles, the corpuscular rays of the sun (if the sun was millions of miles away then we would not get directional light beams as we see through clouds etc as it would have diffused) as well as the hot spots seen on clouds from aircraft.

But I will say this last point... The biggest reason for the globe and space theory.
If space and the globe is proven false... That proves a creator.
If there is a power greater than government then government has no control.
Research flat earth to disprove it and walk away a believer in it.

I did not state you should watch and believe... Had you looked at the info in the hints I'd given you would have seen 70-80% of the flat earth researchers state at the start of their videos on youtube... "do not believe what I am saying... Do not just listen an d believe, go out and test it yourself"
