Has anyone on here got weird and wonderful OCD traits?

I hate seeing unused pens with the lids off.

The dishwasher has to be loaded a certain way.

If there is more than 1 switch on a light switch, they all have to be facing the same way when off.

Dont like to see things half closed like drawers or cupboards.

Volume has to go up/down in 5's

Towel folded just right.

Car temperature always set to a whole number. None of this 18.5c malarkey. It's either 18 or 19, etc. Though I'm not OCD about using odd or even numbers.

Had quite a few as a kid which used to annoy my mother. When walking home from school I had to touch every wall as we passed it and if there was a gap like a gate or bit of grass I’d hold my breath till I came to more bits of wall. I’d also only cross the road on a particular spot where the tarmac went horizontally across the road!

As an adult I’m really bad about food, like in a buffet situation I have to get there first, if anyone talks when they’re eating opposite me I pull my plate closer and put my hand over my plate as a shield, can’t stand people coughing or breathing over my food either. Same with drinks, can’t share them!

Always eat my cooked dinner in order of veg first then meat then roasties mash and Yorkshire’s.

When I hang the washing out the colour of the pegs has to match the clothes

Washing up has to be in a certain order.

Everytime I walk past the front door I check to see if it’s locked even tho we don’t use that door

At work everything has to be laid out in straight lines

Damn...over half of those already mentioned I have too.

Not just the pegs on the line but all socks have to be paired up and facing the same way.

Odd socks for back in the wash to wait for the next one to catch up.

And I have this one. I also hang socks out in pairs and put them in the washer in pairs. I'll dig through the wash basket to locate a stray sock rather than just shoving it all in

16 - no, 18 - yes

Actually this is important, I love my OCD it's more like little quirks to my character I've chosen to maintain but I'd hate to be so mentally dependant on something to an extreme it stopped my life. If anyone here does experience that excuse my light hearted approach to it above

And it was the light hearted approach that started the... well let's say heated discussion. Since OCD is a genuine and quite frankly life destroying mental illness, some people didn't take kindly to it, I do have OCD tendencies however non of them are so extreme that they massively affect my life but seriously you should all see my cutlery drawer.

I have OCD, it comes out in ordering with me. It impacted my life in a hugely negative way - I had to work from home for a while in the early 2000s because I let it take over my life. I couldn't leave the flat until I'd checked everything was exactly in place 6 times. Sometimes I'd get distracted during checking and I'd have to start over - on a really bad day it could take me hours to get through the checking.

It's embarrassing to admit but if I hadn't checked enough I was convinced something horrific would happen - someone could break into my home and I wouldn't notice, it was only the repeated checking that kept me safe.

I remember being physically sick after an interview because the table was round, they gave me a cup of tea and I couldn't line the handle of the mug up with the edge of the table. I got the shakes looking at it and couldn't focus on the questions I was being asked at all.

I found a decent counsellor who helped me through ERP, and I'm much better than I was. It still bothers me if someone sits at my desk when I'm not there, if someone moves things around and they don't sit right on the desk. I can tell at a glance if something is a centimetre out of place. At least I'm able to leave the flat now though (usually), so it's all good.

People are full of complexity and traits that could be measured along many multi dimensional continuua. The fully healthy and standard can share many of these configurations with others who may find things an issue.

We're so complex and capable, lits of ability and energy. Keep using yours as you feel comfortable doing, then change if you'd like variety.

I tend to laugh off some of my compulsiveness - even in the darkest of days I knew it wasn't rational but it made me feel secure and I desperately needed that at the time.

The main thing is that help is out there and a measure of recovery is possible, it's just bloody hard work and involves feeling extremely uncomfortable for an extended period of time.

I can't do the washing up with the dishes in the sink.

I have to rinse a glass out multiple times before I'll drink out of it.

I check my cutlery before I use it.

I have a very specific routine for cleaning the toilet that includes anti bac wiping the toilet cleaner bottle and washing my hands with the gloves still on before removing them and then washing the taps and then my actual hands.

I keep my desk at work so tidy that the cleaners don't think anyone sits there so never bother to clean it which trigures my hygiene issues so I need to get to work early but that's an issue because I'm making sure there are no dishes that need cleaning before I leave so o try to wake up earlier but this OCD shit seems to be MOST prominent at night so I'm up all night organising bank statements from 2003 because they're the the wrong box ffs

I find it hilarious though, proper little comedy show in my mind, laugh at myself as i'm doing it more time

Now I live alone I'm getting worse, my apartment is like a show home and everything has its place, if anything is out of place it mildly stresses me out, I had to up for work at 6am last friday and at 2:30am I was organising my towels in the cupboard because I knew I had 1 still drying and couldn't sleep for thinking about them this morning I woke up at 4am and went in the kitchen to clean the worktops even though I'd done them before going to bed.
