The world's greatest classical music festival (with bias freely admitted to) begins on 18th July and runs to 13th September.

There are concerts every night (and some during the day) at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London, and you can get in for mere £7.

This year's anniversary composers are Dmitri Shostakovich (50 years since he died) and Maurice Ravel (150 years since he was born), so there is plenty of their music in it.

I usually put out a call for a Fab social* to a Prom, and sometimes people have come along. If you think you might be up for meeting a Fabber or two socially* then let out a grunt below and I'll note you as interested. Saying when you are and aren't around and what you music you are interested in could also be helpful.

*By "social" I do mean social. There will be no sex at the Albert Hall. Anybody who wants to come because they think they might get a shag out of it rather than because they want to hear the music are advised that this social is probably not for them.

Classical isn't really my bag

I have enjoyed watching Cynthia Erivo, Sam Smith and the Disco Proms though

And the Northern Soul prom blew me away

Whilst I knew some of the songs, it introduced me to songs that I didn't know - songs that are most definitely on my playlist now

I thought I'd try this with the night audience.

A bit of a cliche, but bolero in a big hall and a decent orchestra and some good company has to have the makings of a great night out.

Enjoy some classical music, would definitely go to something like this if it was up north. Just can't beat live music.

Mid week - afternoon or evening? Could it be combined with a stop at VA on the way down?

Most concerts are in the evening. If you want to combine it with a trip to VA then sort yourself out. This is a social.

Sorry, I didn’t mean it that way, more I was musing aloud if the timing would work so I could do both separately, but on the same day.
