They didn't delay the election in 1864 during the civil war, they didn't delay it in 1944 during WW2

The republican party poured cold water on this idea straight away. Even they can see it what it is, an attempt to undermine the democratic process and call the election result into doubt. Only one person would benefit from delaying the election.

trump is trying to thread a needle and make the distinction between what he does which is "absentee vote" and "mail in voting"...

people in the military and for example if you know you are going to be "out of state" from where you are registered to vote can request an absentee ballot which you then post back....

what trump is objecting to is that some states want to do is sent out ballots to everyone regardless because of the lower amount of ballot places and social distancing under covid (basically every saw what happened on wisconsin primary day when for example in milwaukee.pop 500000 ended up only having a dozen places to vote, people waiting hours and covid cases spiking)

thing that destroys trumps arguement is that there are already a few states that do primarily "mail in" elections already... oregon, washington and utah to name 3!

also the trump campaign are actively encouraging their supporters to support the measure in some states (michigan, minnesota, iowa) whilst in other states fighting against it tooth and nail (north carolina, georgia, wisconsin)

actually both south korea and the us had their first confirmed case of Covid on the same day (Feb 1st 2020 - 5 months ago today) so as comparison "my friend" as to how both countries have dealt with it, its not the worst starting point...

south korea population - approx 50 million

usa population - approx 330 million

is if you take the number as equal population number that would mean that south korea would have about 2700-2800 deaths

again compare that to the US death numbers

what "my friend" you could argue is that south korea got on top of it straight away, got the mass testing and the track and trace bit right, got the outbreak under control and have kept it under control.... whereas the US under the trump where he said it would miraculously go away and it would fizzle out when it got hot, and the way his administration had not listened to science, has got it horribly horribly wrong

So trump in a tweet yesterday claimed the US were handling the response better that France, Spain and Italy since those 3 countries has also had flare ups... so let’s look at the 7 day rolling death average....

USA : 1200 deaths per day...

Spain: 10 deaths per day

France: 3 deaths per day

Italy: 2 deaths per day

Okay so the US has twice the population of those 3 countries combined.... let’s adjust for that.....

1200 vs.... erm.... 30
