I’m fascinated by the number of people who are obsessed with Abbot when the other side has the legendary Grayling, Williamson, Patel and other dimwits. She’s out of the picture. Maybe time to move on...

Fair enough, if labour do split then stopping the Tories winning the next GE will be extremely difficult,

The Socialist Campaign Group could provide the seed for a potential split.

After the disaster of austerity, brexit, May, the prorogation, the dodgy contracts awarded to the mates of the conservatives and the lying show from the gvt, it is incredible that the Labour Party is not hugely favourite for the next one and that there are still people who are happy with what the conservatives have done since 2010. Clearly people’s expectations of our politicians are so low that they don’t need much to endirse these clowns as the tories are still favourite to win the next one.

Ok the Labour Party hasn’t helped itself but it’s time maybe for the electorate to be as critical and demanding with the tories as they are with Labour.

What do people need to kick this lot out?

they need a strong labour leader and as far as I see KS is growing on me I didn’t think he was going to have the balls to get rid of Corbyn but it looks like he’s got some mellons on him after all

Support for Labour is higher than support for the Tories according to Ipsos MORI.

Labour: 42%

Conservatives: 37%

"The Socialist Campaign Group could provide the seed for a potential split. "

But they won't. They stayed through the Blair years and dragging the UK into an illegal war that killed a million civilians.

They should have been more ruthless throughout their leadership, pushed for mandatory reselection and fully democratised the party.

They should have gone on the offensive more about these smears, rather than accommodating the right always

To expand on the above, it reminds of labour in the early 80s, Kinloch took the party to the far left, they were convinced they would win and instead lost to a large majority, it took them another row elections to realise they needed to shift to the middle to get power, I hope it doesn't take that long this time

No one has moved Labour to the far left though, and Kinnock sought to bring Labour more to the centre, after Foot.

Corbyn’s policies were viewed positively by the electorate but he wasn’t, and if you think there’s anyone more centrist than Keir Starmer then I’d love to see who that is.

The Blondie’s cronies think they’ve conquered power until the end of times...

If we have 3 or 4 million people on the dole, it’ll be interesting how these people vote in 2024. I bet you a lot of them won’t trust the legendary tories’ empathy to take them out of the shit.

I was reading this week that a lot of Tory voters were unhappy about the gvt’s decision about free school meals because they fear that it’ll soon apply to them and because they might need these free meals themselves soon

The Torres rely on the ‘I’m alright Jacks’. There will soon be a lot fewer of them. If I was in the shit, I wouldn’t expect Johnson and Rees Mogg to help me. If Labour is credible and their leader is also decent by then, they are in with a chance. Scotland is a problem though.

the north is labours and the tories problem by 2023 bj will splash billions in the north to keep the labour vote that backed him with brexit then it’s upto KS to promise the earth to the north If he can sort labour out by then he stands a chance

I suppose it depends on if what’s important is ideological purity or being pragmatic enough to get the Tories out.

So common wisdom says that Labour have to be centre to get elected?

So the aim is just to get the Tories out? For a very slight incremental improvement. No real change?

That is essentially what Labour was under Blair. It's why they came to power.

We have socialised health care.

We have a welfare system.

We have (had) free travel for the disabled, elderly, and children.

University was free.

Most of the UK has decent public transport.

These are all examples of socialist policies in our society subsidised by the taxpayer.

If they are sensible it won't but sensible is something is something often forgot when fanatics get involved in politics.

There will be back biting for months unless Corbyn falls on his sword or apologises for his words and his lack of action in the past. Kia has a good approach he needs support but I just don't think he will get unity and full support though.

"To expand on the above, it reminds of labour in the early 80s, Kinloch took the party to the far left, they were convinced they would win and instead lost to a large majority, it took them another row elections to realise they needed to shift to the middle to get power, I hope it doesn't take that long this time

What's the aim of a centre Labour party?

Merely to be a slightly less shit version of the Tories?

I suppose it depends on if what’s important is ideological purity or being pragmatic enough to get the Tories out.

So common wisdom says that Labour have to be centre to get elected?

So the aim is just to get the Tories out? For a very slight incremental improvement. No real change?

That's about it yes. There are not and never will be enough people in this country daft enough to believe that socialism is a good idea

What is it about socialism you don’t think is a good idea?

Probably another one who thinks that socialism and communism are the same. I bet you that we were to tell him that Rees Mogg is a fascist, he wouldn’t like it.

It doesn't matter what I think. Come back and tell me I was wrong when a socialist government is in power

I’ll mark that down as a ‘don’t know’.

Or don't care.

But just for you, what is wrong with socialism? It doesn't work

Like capitalism then.

How did you manage to write and post that? The only thing that socialism has ever achieved is equality of poverty and misery. Right I'm off to the pub, cheers "

Because I was born in a hospital that was provided by the results of a socialist healthcare policy to begin with...

Provided by taxes to be accurate the PM's at the time in government didn't pay for it out of their own pockets.

It wouldn’t have been the result of a socialist health policy if they had.

It's a socialised health policy, not a socialist health policy. Are the armed forces a socialist policy? Is insurance a socialist policy?

Why is socialism the first thing that comes to mind.

Personally I don't care what it's called, or what the name of the party is. If the policies and actions are about servicing the people instead of serving the corporations and themselves. Then that's what we need.

But the general consensus is that a party like this will have no chance of being elected.

You have an outdated view of the Tory Party and like the Labour Party you don't seem to understand what working people want or what their values are. That is the reason Labour won't be elected to government for the foreseeable, if ever

I think you're confused about my post. I don't support Labour. And the current Tory party giving all the public money away to their mates businesses is an example of what I personally don't support.

It's a socialised health policy, not a socialist health policy. Are the armed forces a socialist policy? Is insurance a socialist policy? "

Given that one of the major tenets of socialism is social ownership then the NHS and indeed the army are both socialist endeavours. We all pay taxes (unless you are a particularly rich capitalist) which go into a central pot, which then funds things for the good of the population.

Insurance however is a choice, and while there are some socialist elements to the model, it has become just another opportunity for capitalists to exploit the people.

One mistake people often make is to assume there is only one form of socialism, whereas there are in fact many. Similar to capitalism in that respect. I don’t think capitalism is inherently evil, I just think the way capitalism has developed over the years has led to it making society entirely dysfunctional.

The happiest places to live are the Nordic countries, those that tame capitalism’s worst excesses with socialism.

Indeed and by winning the popular vote they one elections and was able to put their policies into action. Have whatever policies you like but unless you convince enough people those policies will never be implemented

"Personally not sure if thay will but corbyn and his cronies are welcome to leave as long as they take abbott with them "

They won’t but it would be good riddance to those who supported him.

Now that labour has cleaned house, can the tories reciprocate? and get rid of their islamaphobics?

I very much doubt it.

The Tories and Labour have always both been very racist parties and that will never change.

In an increasingly ‘me me me’ world socialism is dieing whereas social media is on the still ever increasing rise.

Politics should be secular even though Politics is a belief and faith system.

It won't split purely on funding issues with who will fund what part. The Unions want the power and they provide a lot of the money.

Surely the question for the country is how far will the Tories destroy the UK while they're in power, having succumbed to the freak-show Far-right?

Well I agree. I just find it disappointing that, slightly less shit that the Tories, is the best we can hope for.
