Tens of thousands of predominantly black and Asian service personnel who died fighting for the British Empire were not properly commemorated due to "pervasive racism", a report has said.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has apologised over its findings.

Labour MP David Lammy called it a "watershed moment".

An inquiry was set up following a 2019 Channel 4 documentary presented by Mr Lammy, Unremembered.

It found that at least 116,000 mostly African and Middle Eastern casualties from World War One "were not commemorated by name or possibly not commemorated at all".

"It's an omission that was very disrespectful to the Empire, disgraceful "

One of many omissions in our history.

Yet a recent "report" shows that there's no institutional racism.

The cynic would say that it's very easy to both criticise, and apologise, for something that was a hundred years ago.

Notts

agree they should have got grave stones, in the boer war dead british service men were sent home in a blanket and the cost of said blanket was removed from their final wages! the brits have always been shitty lol cannon fodder, planks... we can be horrible bastards...

However i digress, these men were not fighting for britain but for a greater good, ... think game of thrones... if you dont defeat the army of the dead we all lose... so i dont see it as a purely... britain let them down, other countries could have organised... the indian gov and various other governments let them down.... spread that shame people...

they should have been looked after better
